Cheap 6 lug rear disc????

I have seen everyone making cheap kits work with impala parts etc but what can be done for the six luggers for cheaper. I can get the brackets, hoses and calipers for a metric car but what to do about rotors? I want discs all around but stay 6 lug and not spend 1200 on it. Front rotors alone are going to run me 86.65ea for 72 spindle. 12 bolt btw.

Re: Cheap 6 lug rear disc????

I've thought about designing some brackets for 6 lug rear discs, but just haven't had the time yet. That and I'm not sure how many would want them.

On the ultra cheap, I've seen a guy re-drill the front backing plates from a K10 to fit the flange on the 12 bolt and use the rotor and caliper from the same. I don't remember the details or how well it all lined up though.

4x4 S10 Blazer? They have a slighly narrower housing vs. the 6X-70's & discs were an option. I believe Dino has one under his green CC.

4x4 S10's are 5 on 4.75 bolt circle, I believe....

88-94 S-15's & Jimmy's (both 4x4's) were 6x5.5" pattern. I'm not sure about the disc option though (can't remeber what year they started offering rear discs).

Re: Cheap 6 lug rear disc????

I met a guy using a 99+ rear axle from a pick-up around here. Your issues are the width and your wheel backspacing. Also metric lugs.

As far as SCOTI's suggestion; I have never seen a 6-lug S10....only the newer Trailblazers, which is again a different pattern than our trucks.

If you re-read my initial post there was a question mark after my statement because I'm not up to speed on S-10 4x4 Blazers. I did know a guy that had a s-10 Blazer 4x4 back when I was going to school & it had 6-lug wheels. When I first read this thread, I remembered his truck & looked it up (googled). I came across that site & figured it was a 4x2 vs. 4x4 thing.

Upon further investigation, most of the stock wheels I've seen/searched for were indeed 5-lug pattern. I do remember his truck looked pretty stock-ish & I thought the wheels were OE. I guess he did some swapping on his . . ....

That depends on what diameter wheel you want to run. Most of the 'newer' discs I've been looking at (2000 and up) are in the 13 inch range. So with these you will need to run at least a 16 inch wheel. Plus the fact that you don't want a larger rotor on the rear than on the front. So then you have the issue of trying to put larger 6 lug rotors on the front. So it is probably easier and more cost effective to stay with a rear rotor around 12 inches diameter.

I have a couple of ideas but just haven't had time to get it worked out.

I was just playing around, don't take offense, I know it is hard to convey joking thought the inter-web;)
(and my friends do call me "DICK")

I am thinking whom ever compiled the bolt pattern list may have mistaken a full size 4x4 GMC Jimmy (blazer equivalent) with 6 lugs for a 4x4 S-15 jimmy with 5 lugs...dunno but it was in no way an attack on your character....you provide very good info and are appreciated by me at least, and I'm sure many more members.

Have you reseached the isuzu corporate 12 bolt? It has a 6x5.5" pattern. I thought gm and isuzu were in cahoots?

I suppose this is what they go for

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1102531174.html

I also heard they have limited slip.

that isuzu might be the way to go.....anyone know the wms-to-wms on the stock rear end in the 4-5-6 trucks?

Re: Cheap 6 lug rear disc????

I would think stepping down to the d44 wouldn't be worth getting disc brakes plus parts are more expensive for dana stuff. I dont think it would handle getting beat on when I get my other motor done.

Wow that may be a good differential to swap for someone that didn't have a lot of horsepower and torgue. And it's only 1 inch wider than the '63-'69 12 bolt.

The '63-'69 12 bolts measure 62 1/8" wms to wms. I just recently read that the 1970 12 bolts are slightly wider. Anyone else heard that or can verify that claim?

Re: Cheap 6 lug rear disc????

Cap'n.....I have a 68 rear and a 71-2. The 71-2 is wider cuz my wheels fit on the burb and I had to tub the pick-up with less backspace. Rather unscientific but I'll try to get out the tape to measure. The newer rears are supposed to be 1.5'' wider total.

Yes I was aware that starting in '71 the differentials are 1.5" wider than previous years, but I recently read that the '70 model was either the same width as the '71 and newer or somewhere in between. I just don't know if that info is correct or not.

I called these guys http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/index.php a few days ago and they said that they are working on a disc brake setup for the small bearing 12 bolt rear end...hope this helps a little...I will probably be getting this as soon as they finalize their design
