Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
They STOLE it???? Did they remove it from the truck, or was it sitting in the back yard... Is there ANYONE in town with a burb???
A blazer hatch will not work. You need a 67 - 72 burb piece. |
Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
I'd be going to local swap meets, and cruise spots. You never know, thieves are kinda dumb. If you were to find yours at swap or cruise, take a pic of it and go to the police.

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
yeah took it right off the truck. I was in utah last weekend and the b*st*rds took it. It was pretty badly rusted and the glass was severely rusted sooo, i am cruising it with out a hatch till I find one. Las Vegas doesnt have swap meet or cruise spots unless you have a lamb/ferrari or some jap car that sounds like a cazoo

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
This is a part that some one should be building. Everyone has rust problems with them and I am sure that they would sell just a good as blazer hatches and fenders. who makes the parts for Brothers, or LMC? we need them to make hatches and barn doors

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
A fiberglass replica could be done. It wouldnt be extremely difficult but very time consuming making the molds. It would probably have to be two halves somehow mated together after seperate pieces were made. I worked in carbon fiber/fiberglass manufacturing for 8 years. Almost anything can be fabricated, as long as you have something to splash a mold off of. We made some pretty detailed parts but cost is the major downfall. The supplies, labor and tooling to make the molds could add up to tens of thousands of dollars very quick. It wouldnt have to be autoclaved, which would cost tons more and be overkill for a hatch, but could be done in a wet layup similar to fiberglass repair on a boat. I would expect a replica would probably cost $300-$500 range.
Being in this industry I understand why they dont manufacture aftermarket ones. I looked into fabricating dash panels and similiar items but the cost was outrageous. The guy on this site making altered wheel opening fiberglass fenders would probably know more. Most of my experience is in high temp. exhaust and motocross fields. I do know fiberglass replicas CAN be done if one of these companys making front clip parts would spend the time and money on R&D. It sounds like there is definitely a market for them. |

I know a customer!

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
I would definately buy one too!!!! no more rust ohh hell yeah
|
Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
the problem on top of what was listed, is in reality, it is a very small market. They'll sell a few hundren the first year, and then a dozen the following years untill say say screw it and stop making them.
That's pretty hard core to remove the part from your truck like that. Thieves suck. While a rusted hatch is obviously better than nothing.... at least they got a junk one out of the deal. |

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
I have the Brothers aftermarket hatch on my '71 Jimmy. It doesn't come with any latches, catches or hardware, which, if you can't transfer off the old one 'cause it's gone -- makes for some difficult assembly. Also it rattles.

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
Sometime over the winter i'm going to make a new steel hatch for my burb,
At the moment i'm building a car thats going to have a mould taken off it to make a pro mod drag car, I'll ask the mould makers how much it would be to make a mould/ produce tail gates, if it's realistic i'll get some made, here's a link to the shell i'm doing if anyones interested, turning a 4 door into a chopped 2 door coupe http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=5064 cheers Wayne |

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
If your still looking there is a small salvage yard over in Red Oak Texas, south of Dallas that has a few older burbs. They had 2 complete trucks 72 style 3/4 ton and 2 half tons. Both the 1/2 tons had liftgate/tailgate units and one of the 3/4's still had its barn doors. i can call them up or get you a name and number later if you want. They are decent guys and would probably even package and ship for you. All units were pretty rust free (of coarse in texas and NM thats the only benefit to our weather).

Re: blazer rear hatch on sub?
Any info would be good , I've got friends in California that could ship one over here
