Have I forgotten something BIG?
2 Attachment(s)
I was cleaning my workspace and came upon this in a baggie, something I got from the guy who rebuilt my th 350 tranny and I can't remember but I think it was supposed to go somewhere as I put the tranny back in. I completely removed the tranny myself and delivered it to him for a complete rebuild which he did and gave me this. I FORGOT WHERE IT GOES ! An am freaking out because the engine, tranny and transfer case is tucked away back in the blazer and I am afraid I am going to have to tear it back out! The transfer case was fine and I just cleaned it off and repainted it, going to change fluid it case before roading it. Do any of you recognize this part and am I going to have to slit my wrists later? HELP!

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
I hate to state the obvious, but it's a seal. There are several places it might go...input shaft seal on tranny, rear output seal on tranny, the tranny tcase adapter, input or output seal on transfer case. Are you leaking fluid from anywhere? Check the fluid in your transfer case...is it full of tranny fluid?

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
Haven't filled it with fluid yet but the tranfer case did not leak prior to rebuild...

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
Well dont slit your wrists but you're going to have to take it back apart... It is a seal as stated above I can't remember which one it is but it is one of those very important seals.

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
I replaced both of the seals in the np205 transfer case adapter this winter and those seals do not have the small ridge around the outside edge where you are holding, sorry I cant help more.

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
Long before i would tear it back out to check for the missing seal. I would fill it and check it out. Sometimes re-build kits come with extra parts for different applications. So it could just be a spare part that he didn't need.

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
Before you do ANYTHING, take the seal to the guy that built it for you. Ask him what it is first. Secondly, if it is one of those really important pieces ask him if he put another one on the tranny since you didn't give it to him for the build. He probably put another one on it for you. Having recently had my tranny built I know exactly how much work you did to r&i the tranny and t-case, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
:agree: Check with your transmission guy first.
Either-way, better to find it now IMO. |
Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
That's what conclusion I came to as I couldn't sleep last nite, BECAUSE I WAS THINKING OF THIS! I will talk to tranny guy and back away from the knife, at least for now!

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
GOOD NEWS! Tranny guy says it was an extra rear seal for the 2 WD that he sent home with me, otherwise he just throws them away. I don't need it in the 4 WD blazer. I feel like John Belushi in his samarai whatever, right after he does not have to kill himself, if any of you is old enough to remember that.

Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
That is good news.
FYI...If the rear seal on the tranny was missing (or has gone bad), your transfer case would have filled with tranny fluid. |
Re: Have I forgotten something BIG?
Take it apart, just in case...........................Just kidding!!!LOL..Good news, and good luck getting it up and running, one question though, did you pour a quart of tranny fluid in your torque converter? if not then go ask the trans. guy what to do, HIDE THE KNIFE FIRST!!!!
