Modern Lubricants and Oil Change Frequency?
 

I have a 2004 Yukon XL. This may be an age old question but what oil lubricants are u guys using for your Newer Trucks? If someone has the owners manual that states what's recommended and what you all are using with results. As the difference from standard vs. snythetic. Keep in mind my truck has 60K on it already.

i service alot of this trucks and suv coming though ym shop and we use Mobil drive clean 5000 5w30 in them good for 5 k miles. and i have a few that use the mobil 1 full synthetic and the owner say they see a fuel mileage difference and they perform better. i have one 2002 suburban with 250k on it running full synthetic since about 30k miles and it is still running strong

I have a 03 Sierra 1500HD. It has 97K on it, and I change the oil every 3,000-3500 miles. I just use the regular Valvoline with a Wix filter. I haven't had any problems, knock on wood :lol:. If you are looking at going further between oil changes as stated above like 5,000 miles then you would probably be better with a full synthetic. Like you said you are going to get a lot of different opinions on this subject. The good thing is you will get a lot of good information from it too. I look forward to reading further posts to see what everyone else is running, and their results as well.

MY 02 I use the 10/30 Castor High mileage (synthetic blend). I didn't want to run a full synthetic because I didn't know what was run in mine prior. I got it with 130,000. Full synthetics tends to leak a lot in some older engines, thus I went with the blended. I change my about every 3000 normally, but I also drive in some very dusty/sandy environments, so I don't stretch it between changes even though I probably could.

All of my newer vehicles run on a strict diet of Valvoline premium conventional 10W-30 oil with only AC Delco filters on a 5,000 mile interval. My two 8.1L's get an oil change at least once a year regardless as they never go 5,000 miles in a year.

I also have a large package delivery customer with several thousand 4.8, 6.0 and 8.1L engines in package delivery vehicles that are running 15W-40, AC Delco filters on 5,000 mile intervals as well with great success. The purpose for their 15W-40 choice is to have one common oil in all their vehicles from semi’s to package delivery vehicles, gas or diesel. Yes, they may lose some MPG but they make up for it in 15W-40 bulk purchases cost and simplicity of maintaining their fleet.

With today’s clean running efficient engines and quality of additives in the conventional oils you don’t need a synthetic oil to run a 5,000 interval.

Mobil One every 5K. If it's summer time and I'm towing my boat a lot I'll cut it down to 3,500-4K-ish instead. Because of gas and my other toys, the silverado barely sees 5 or 6K per year now.

My truck has a noticably louder CSK when I don't run Mobil One. I still get 14 city and 18 highway.
