Kind of pushing the load limit of my tires. Truck pulled it up the hill to my house though. Had been thinking about lowering it, but I guess not. Please excuse the rattlecan tiger stripes.

A cubic yard of some wet sand. Kinda freaked when they put the 3rd scoop in
and the sidewalls kind flexed a bit.

Wow... now I can tell why it made it squat so much, that was a heavy load. :D

That's also one way to show you what it would look like lowered. It's always good to see these old trucks still pulling their own.

I didn't get a pic of my Longhorn loaded, but I had around 3500 lbs in the bed and still had a good 2-3 inches before the bump stops. Unlike this idiot that broke down outside of my office yesterday. He had about a million lbs of cinder blocks in the back of a 1/2 ton Dakota short bed, completely on the bump stops and then some. I think he snapped a U-joint in the middle of a very busy road. I call it Thinning the Herd... One less incompetent person off the road, at least for a while.

The summer yard work begins!!! That actually looks like it hauled well. Here's mine with a yard (minus a few wheelbarrow loads) of dirt a few days ago. The front was higher than the back... and it's got new springs!

Thank you all for sharing pictures of working trucks, my favorite.

I don't need to work either of my '67-72 trucks but I do anyway.

I have a '92 K-3500 that can handle anything, but I enjoy working the old ones from time to time and I think they enjoy it.

My old C20 is going to get some work this weekend. Wife is having some dirt delivered but my truck will have to haul it from the front to the back (dump truck won't fit through the gate). The truck will be shocked! It thinks it is retired.

Hey Doug, I think another 2 pounds and my tires would pop. The hill coming up to the house is a little steep, but not as bad as some around here.
Leveling the grade on some walkways on the property.

Good to see ya still working the old truck, reminds me of when I was a kid, Dad had a 70 C/20. We were building his house then, we'd went to pick up a ton of sand, I guess the man running the loader kinda made a misjudgement. When we came across the scales we had just a shade over 3 ton! The old 70 was really squatted as in the bumper almost hitting the ground when we hit a bump. Truck survived to haul alot more heavy loads and me hotrodding it around the farm at age 12!

Glad to see you actually use your truck, Ive loaded a yard of sand and they handle decent enough. I probly wouldnt try it on a half ton you gotta love the 3/4 ton :metal: Oh and by the way your primer looks great, mine is gray and rusting rattlecan primer :lol:

I just love seeing trucks being used as trucks and not just as eye candy.

I picked up & delivered a 1 ton pallet of wood pellets for a friend's wood stove.
I honestly believe we could have put on another pallet, if it was needed; it was only about a 3 mile haul and all on surface streets, no freeway stuff.

my truck doesn't do any hauling anymore, with the new wood bed i just cant bring myself to do it..

dang! i thought for sure i had a picture.. anyways i once moved this triaxle trailer about 3/4 mile up the road, if i gave it too much gas id get the front tires off the ground aha..

its a 1/2T shortbox though...

I put a ton of gravel on the 69 chevy 1/2 ton last week. Heard the a rattle from the pipes on bumps. That's what these ol trucks were designed for.

Here's another true tale for ya.

Back in '74 I bought a '74 C/10; bare bones 350 with 3 OTT.

My aunt & uncle had recently bought a house & were doing the landscaping. My uncle asked if I would take him over to a local feed lot to get some steer manure for fertilizer.
"Sure why not?" It's family right? & he was more of a dad to me than my dad was.

We get to the feed lot & the manure is $X/yd; 1 1/2 yd. minimum; because the loader had a 1 1/2 yd scoop. My uncle bought 3 yd, and said we'll come back for a 2nd load.

I pulled up to the loader & the operator dropped that bucket of sh...., uhhhhhhhhhh, poop into the truck & I was looking at the sky through the windshield. The load was roof top high and dribbling over the bed rails (try to get away with that nowadays).
I got back to the office and asked if they had a compressor so I could air up the rear tires a bit. I pumped them up to about 60# & quit because I was getting skeered.
Heading back to the house (the road was very tight & twisty with some minor elevation changes), if I bogged the motor the front of the truck would literally bounce up a bit every time the engine fired.

Shoveled off the 1st load & then back for the 2nd.
I pulled up on the scales & told the guy something like, "I wanna know what I'm haulin' outta here."
Got the 2nd load & back on the scales, "You got about 3500# there."

Delivered it & shoveled it off.

IMHO, and experience, "Chevy Tough" is more than just an advertising slogan.

Sorry for the long story, but it just seemed appropriate, at least to me.

Heh. Long ago we had 2 full skids of shingles set next to each other right behind the cab of my 69 C20 flatbed. A guy in a new ford one ton couldn't handle 1 skid full and he was mad at his new truck... We just laughed and drove off w/o any trouble. More of a load placement thing but funny.

Growing up, my dad had a '69 Chevy C-20, slightly built 307 with a 4 speed. He bought it in '79 from a tree trimmer with about 125,000 working miles on it. He made a dump run with this guy, hauling a triple axle trailer. They went over the scales at around 20,000 lbs., after climbing a big ass hill, 2nd gear, no problem. My dad handed over the cash ($1300!) and proceeded to put about 150,000 miles on it. I got it about 20 years ago, put another 40K on it and sold it to a neighbor, thinking its days were numbered. He now has 425,000 miles on it, works the crap out of it and it just keeps going. I'm still kicking myself for that one!

I hauled home 70 16"x16" pavers this weekend (36 lbs. each so total of ~2,520lbs., and they were wet so it was a little more). I was definitely looking at the stars on the ride home with my tired springs and left a yard long "scratch" on the pavement when I pulled into the driveway, might make removing my hitch ball fun in the future:waah: I bought a set of these helper springs (rated at 1,500 lbs.) for $28 with free shipping, so maybe next time I can keep the front tires on the ground.

I have an Uncle who is a die hard Ford fan. He has a '67 3/4 ton. He's convinced that GM makes a nicer looking truck of that vintage, but the Fords are the "real work trucks". BULL CRAP!
