Well despite the fact that it's stronger than all heck it can look pretty dang cool. I dont know how the whole vehicle would look but it'd be interesting. Suspension parts in CF would be dang weird since it is so rigid. The thing that makes me ? is that they are offering to do it for only 4k, i know a nose cone on an indy car costs em 30+k and that's only a li'l pieced. If you ever got in an accident that stuff would jar the daylights outa you but your car would probably just jounce off and be just fine... Dunno interesting idea, i wonder if someone will do it...

I could understand having body parts made out of carbon fiber, but put it over the existing metal body?

Yeah that part is what seems odd too, it'd add strength but weight too. If yer truck had CF parts that would be one VERY light vehicle and very strong. makes me wonder why the auto folks dont use it for nothing...
Perhaps cuz it's so rigid it wont take a hit well and will jar peeps too badly. dunno just a thought. ------------------ 69 Custom 20, 396BB,Longbed fleetside. New Oak Bed With SS strips. CF is strong, but brittle. and expensive.
1 hit and half the car could shatter to pieces. Where metal bends, and can absorb more impact. That is the big myth about CF, strong is not always the BEST. Sure pure race car, where you have a safety cage, and want things stiff for handling, can have benefits. But I highly doubt "MOM" would want a stiff riding race car to haul the kids to soccer practice. Race car ride and street car ride, have big differences. ------------------ Jeff Scott '70 GMC Stepside, Short box '67 Camaro '63 Nova '92 GMC typhoon |

CF fabrication is more complicated than fiberglass, and for a stand alone panel, it would be a couple layers thick and cast in a special mold made specifically from your part. To layer a car with one thin layer would be faily simple and cheap. The problem would be that any dent or flex in your metal would break that carbon fiber loose.

You could hide a lot of body rust..lol

I have recently heard of another process called spray welding an example was for coating pited frames and such smooth so they are like new! So now you can sandblast-sprayweld-and then powder coat you rusted frame. Just heard about it from the guy who bought my 65 gto in ohio. He said it has just became available.
