Seat Options
Have a '57 being built on C4 components. Looking for ideas on bucket seats that don't go above the rear bottom of the wrap around window? Looking at 60's Impala and or?? Would these be too low (seat stance). Ideas??
Thx! |
Re: Seat Options
Project 57
You might want to look into a 2004 Cad SUV second row seat. If I remember right it sits just below your window line if you remove the small headrests. It looked really nice in the mid 50s Chevy truck that I saw (also a big window). There are lots of 3rd row seats for sale on ebay, but in my opinion it's the second row seat (much harder to come by) you'd be wanting. I agree with you, I wouldn't want to disturbe the window line if I could help it. In the end it's your money and your truck! Good Hunting |

Re: Seat Options
I used a 07 Yukon third row seat, check out my build thread for all the details. Look at post 99 for a shot of the back window. Later shows the frame construction. If you search this site for seat swap there are a number of threads discussing it. I set mine up so the seats still tilt up to get access underneath and behind without unbolting the frames, I can also pop them in and out just like the original application.

Re: Seat Options
The only comment that I have to make is that when you use ANY of the new style seat combinations ,you have to realize that the seats were designed for a longer cab. Try to get something that is as 'thin' as possible. If you use something that has a thick backrest, you are going to be sitting 'on' the steering wheel with your knees up to your chin.
A 57 cab is VERY short from the dash to the back window. |

The set back thickness was a factor in my decision too. Here is a picture that shows the thickness and the frame. also a shot that shows the relationship of the seat, me and the steering wheel. The tape is the door window sill. I am not a big guy (5-6, 160 lbs) and feel the steering is just right. There is also a shot of the back window, you could remove the head rest and not see the seat.
