Welcome from fort worth (a little late.. lol). I just acquired a 91 suburban and i am fixing to do a similar swap. Did you get a noticeable increase in power? I know mines a bit different being tbi and all but im just not satisfied with the get up and go. i know its a big truck but its also my daily driver and will also be my trip vehicle. Im looking for better mileage over the 12mpg i get now, but i want some added pep. the wiring is no big deal for me but did you run into any clearance issues? which adapter plates did you use? also my speedo is electric being a 91 but out of curiousity what did you do for a speedo with yours being mechanical? im hoping my speedo will work with no modifications but probably not. lol
thanks and welcome to the board.

hello fellow texan. my 5.3 makes really good power but it has a custom tune im guessing 320 HP I average 16MPG with a high of 18 thats driving like a old man. ive had as low as 13. i used street & performance motor mount adapters. had to notch the frame a little for the ac compressor & exhaust manifolds. i had to buy a custom tailhousing with a mechanical speedo drive to run my dash also from S&P. Ive converted TBI trucks before its a real pain. i had to fabricate a second vss on the slip yoke if you try to piggyback on the 4L60E vss it screws up the signal to the computer and the trans will not shift out of first. might be easier to buy autometer gauges and a dash from covan classics.

Covan's sells replacement dashes for 91's? I only found up to '87 pickups.

88-91 suburbans had the same body style and dash as the early burbs, and trucks. so the instrument panel would be the same.

thanks for the help. i think i might do what i want to in the first place and use the gauges from the donor truck and make a custom dash. that will make things a whole lot cheaper... lol ive always thought it would be cool to use the complete wiring harness, ecm, bcm, and everything. then i could make the drivers information center work also. alot of work but would be cool in the end. i would really like to swap the complete dash and interior from a newer burb into mine. then it would have the old body with the feel of a new burb,
anyway thanks for the info.
