edelbrock carbs

I have a 87 GMC with a 305 in it and am trying to put on an edelbrock carb (1406). The problem is that I cannot figure out how to hook up the trans kickdown cable. I know it goes on the lower part of the lever on the carb but where? My kickdown cable takes this thing with a set screw. The thing slips over this knub thing (real technical ain't I) that is suppose to screw into the lever on the carb. Can someone help I need my truck.

Do you have a TH350, which has an actual kickdown cable or is it a 700R4 with a TV cable?

I'm no Edelbrock/AFB style guru. I can tear a Q-jet to pieces though.

I do know for sure the TV cable brackets that were made to work with Q-jets don't exactly work right with the Edelbrock square bores or Holleys. They sell brackets that make it work smoothly. I think some of the guys here have rigged their stock bracket to make it work. One things for sure, make sure you get it right, or you will quickly burn up the tranny.

I'll let some of the 1406 guys chime in here on what they did.

I don't know the difference on the cables. This is a twisted/woven metal cable like the type they have on suspension bridges. The brackets or levers I am talking about are the things you conect the throtel to that rolls back and forth on the carb. They ar a bronze coler. Not the brackets that bolt to the manifold. Thanks again

if you have a th350 you can drive without it connected. i do and downshift manualy if i need to. on a th350 all the shifts are controled by vacuum except the downshift when you floor it.

if its a 700r4 though don't drive it without it hooked up.

did edelbrock not give you the little 'knub' that goes on the throttle bracket? or is you cable to short or what? i'/m not sure i understand what exactly the problem is?

i have the knub there is just no hole to put it in. That is where i am stuck

You need this bracket from Edlebrock.

You can find locally at most performance part stores. Even your local auto parts stores can order it for you. I too had to rig my TV to work with the 1406. The stock bracket just dont work properly. Some people do have it hooked up, but I believe they will eventually kill a tranny unless changes are made. There are also other brackets too.

I have that bracket set. What I need to know is how to hook the cable onto the carb. I know how to mount the bracket to the intake manifold. Thanks

Never mind, I finally got ahold of Edelbrock and they told me the ass-backward way that they recomend. Thanks
