pro gears in truck rear
1 Attachment(s)
just wanted to let everyone know it can be done. just installed moser 4:88 pro gears for a 12 bolt car rear in my truck, 1 pinion bearing is the only difference. i can get the bearing numbers if needed or call moser. i checked the application on the bearing and its for a newer chevy truck rear or an international. i work at napa so i got my bearings at work or moser can supply them. Dev.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
is that said 12bolt in the picture? looks like you have some other work into To get them front hoops off the ground....care to share what?
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
I'd like to know what the bearing number is if you don't mind. ;)
Oh and some more info on your truck too..... |
Re: pro gears in truck rear
iron headed 406, all motor. about 12:1, lunati solid and a 750 holley. auto gear m-22 four speed. the rear has moser axles and spool, lpw cover and back brace, tubes are welded. trailing arms are plated top and bottom and boxed in (bent one from launching). stock truck springs with lakewood shocks for a chevelle (had to flip shock mounts from side to side) anything else just ask. Dev.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
That would definitely be some good info to have.

Re: pro gears in truck rear

Re: pro gears in truck rear
Man are our ET's and MPH NA very close to each other.. What's that truck of yours weigh?
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
very sweet truck. nice to see another gear jammer. i swear you copied mine. lol. hows autogear's super case? i've been think about gettin one. also, what rpm you leaving at? chris.
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
The supercase is impressive in person. VERY beefy.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
super 73, i gotta weight it again at the track, i weighed it once at a local truck scale and it said 3300#, don't know if its really that light.
71. don't worry, no copies here i put this one together about 6 years ago. also glad to see someone else who isn't afraid to go old school with a 4 speed. launches nice around 4-4500:metal: supercase is very nice, mine is all autogear on the outside and all internals are from a place called four gear trans. he doesn't think the maserio gears were strong enough so he made his own that are stronger and relieved for better oiling and some other tricks. he says it will take 750 hp. super nice guy to deal with too. |
Re: pro gears in truck rear
its all good. that nice to know, ill have to keep him in mind if i blow mine up. im runnin a m-20 with stock everything with an iron midplate. i'm leaving at 5200 on the 2-step. what's your 60ft times? you runnin regular clutch or one with an adjustable pressure plate and iron disc?

Re: pro gears in truck rear
moser told me that a billet 1350 yoke from a car wouldn't work on our 12bolts, but i ordered one anyway from them just to make sure, and they do...drivetrain specialist here in okc told me that they would work.... What rearend cover do you have on yours?
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
5200 wow that must be fun. i was thinking of getting a 2 step, what did you switch yours from the line loc or the pedal?? 60ft times are in the 1.6-1.7 range. does the m-20 seem to make the rpm drop off on the top end? i had one in my truck when i first put it together and then destroyed it and switched to an m-21, seemed to help on the 3-4 shift, and with 4;88's it still leaves hard. eventually exploded the 21, hopefully this one takes the abuse.
i did have a ta performance cover on before i put the rear brace on but then i had to get the cover from lpw to use the back brace. |

its is, bout pulls the front tires. wanna try higher but i dunno if the trans can take it. im nornally in 1.69-1.71 60ft. got the 2-step wired off the line lock switch, since im still shifting with the clutch if didnt make much sense to it off the clutch. it worth the money tho, so nice not havin to watch the tach and the tree, helped out with my lights a lot. 3-4 deffently sucks, i shift around 6300 and it drop to around 4800, but i think havin the lower first gear makes up for. i had a 21 in it with a 3.73 on the street and then swtiched to the 20 and noticed a huge difference. now that its track only, i put a 4.88 in it, and have never ran it with the 21. chris.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
My super t-10 is a 2.64/1.75/1.34/1.00. 1-2 is a pretty big drop, but it seems to be a pretty good compromise.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
I know this is kind of an old thread, but I'm building a 68 GMC shorty stepside for the 1/4 mile. I'm currently running a 350 TBI, 3 speed saginaw and 12 bolt rear with minispool. It's a budget build, and I haven't touched in it a year or so, so forgive me if I forget a few things. I think I have 4:10 gears in it, and I have a Muncie built for it, I believe the M-21 close ratio. Couple things, where is the best place to get a 1350 yoke for a 12 bolt? Do you know what bellhousing I should look for to swap in the Muncie? I know they came stock, but I do not know what years. Also, I am planning on a fuel cell in the box along with the battery. How big a problem is it to get traction in these trucks?

I've been trying all summer long to drop a high 11. What size slick do you run? |
Re: pro gears in truck rear
im running a 30x12.50-15 et street.
you can get the 1350 yoke from moser and it will fit right on no problem. i never have a traction issue, im sure if you try to run street tires you will but with slicks i pull the left front wheel every pass and have stock truck coils in the rear and lakewood 50/50 shocks. if your gonna race it regularly with the stick go for the blowproof bell, im sure it would be harder to drive with half your foot missing from a clutch explosion. dev |
Re: pro gears in truck rear
What's the number of the bearing needing? Also, can you use the truck yoke with car gears. Found a set of used 5.38 pro gears on ebay. Thanks. Chris.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
TTT for the magic bearing.
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
ttt, I've searched all over the internet, crossed bearing numbers from timken for a 90 and up 1/2 ton chevy truck and still no luck. Hate to think I wasted $100 on a set of gears I can't use. Chris.
|
Re: pro gears in truck rear
i've looked for my reciept with the numbers, to no avail. sorry. if you call moser and tell them what your trying to do they can give you the bearing number. i don't think it was a half ton chevy as it also fit an international truck. you didn't waste a hundred. Devin
