Houndstooth or Vinyl for a daily driver?

So, I'm getting closer to getting my seats done. How will houndstooth hold up to daily wear vs vinyl?

I want houndstooth, just worried it might not hold up in a daily diver?

I don't think you would have any issues with it. I have cloth in the seat area of the White '67 and it's holding up good. I put a cover over the seat if I'm really dirty and want to run to town or the salvage yard to get something but other than that it's well used.

Of all the trucks/seats I have parted out, it seems that the cloth/houndstooth seats held up better than the vinyl seats. As far as the new materials though, I am am not sure but I would guess the cloth would do fine.

I think that cloth will hold up better...even though that I would still upholster them in vinyl.

Cloth feels A LOT better on the ole butt when the truck has been sitting in the sun all day.

I like cloth but the white part of the houndstooth is easy to get dirty. The cover idea mentioned above sounds helpful for my problem.

Good Luck!

I'm an upholstery guy, and yes the body cloth will hold up much better. It will be more comfortable to sit on as well, only thing it's much harder to clean, or rather it will soak up anything that it can.
Vinyl is easy to clean, and you can get it in a wide range or colors and textures. If you want the look of leather, but don't want to spend the $ or know you won't maintain it like leather needs, then there are some great faux-leather vinyls. There's a very cool vinyl called symphony vintage that distresses just like real leather, meaning you can put creases, wrinkles, etc in it just like leather, but it's much easier to care for- cool stuff.
Some vinyls hold up much much better than others.
Allente, Whisper, Rave are pretty common and good quality.
As for the houndstooth body cloth, you can also get it in a pretty decent variety of colors, combination of colors, and a few different patterns.

if you want the houndstooth, go for it. While I do deter customers from certian materials, body cloths are not one of them (stay away from thin, soft backed vinyls that are very very stretchy for seats- only good for wrapping panels, etc.).
I always tell customers, well you're paying for it, and you're driving it, you should not hesitate to pick what you want.

Re: Houndstooth or Vinyl for a daily driver?

I really like the look of houndstooth, but my truck is used as a truck, and alot of times I'm pretty filthy when I hop in there. If I had a cover to toss over the seat when I was dirty I would be good about using it for awhile, but I know eventually I would tire of the hassle...vinyl for me.

I like the look of houndstooth, but I know that sooner or later I'd stain it.

My trucks are done in Vinyl...one scrolled and one with pleats.

What is the first seat you showed? It looks cupped out in the middle and looks really cool/sporty like a vette seat or something?

I've been daily driving on my replacement houndstooth cover for 3-4 years now without any wear, go for the cloth!
