Vin #

 I am purchasing a 1980 C-10 stepside. I have the VIN # off the current title, so like any true-blue enthusiast, I looked it up. Every letter and number made sense with one exception. The third character is a Z. Was there a Z engine code in 1980? Yes, the year code is A(1980)) I tried to search the dash for the VIN#, but with no luck. A plastic dash cover has been installed.
Tanx in advance for your help.

There was not a Z engine code in 1980. There was in '79 though. I got my information from a fellow board member's page. It's a great reference. The site is http://www.73-87.com/7387stuff/7380vin.htm. Good luck and welcome aboard!

PS. What do you do there in Hawaiii in the Navy? I spent my first two years stationed at Pearl Harbor.

I found my answer Bigred. The truck origanally had a 350 diesel motor. I am assuming that the truck was a special order, since how many shortbed stepside 1/2 ton diesels have you heard of? LOL!! I bought the truck today. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get a photo taken and learn to put it on the computer.
It's wierd that my first truck was a '78 Chevy Scottsdale (converted diesel), and my newest truck is a '80 Scottsdale (diesel conversion also). I've had a Ford and a Dodge, and here I am...back where I belong.:bowtie:
In answer to your question I'm on an Arleigh Burke class destroyer out of Pearl. Im an OS2:flag:
