Question about cats and arizona.
 

Ahoy. So I bought a 75 4x4 with a 350 and true dual exhaust. I dont know about these trucks yet so my question is, should there be converters on my truck in order to pass emissions? My dad had a 73 suburban with a 350 but I cant remember seeing cats under the truck.

Any help would be great, I need to register this bucket.

Any particular reason why? Is it just the nature of the truck or just because its 30 some years old?

2) Vehicles Exempt from Testing

When you do so, include a copy of the vehicle's registration as well as a copy of a current utility bill or property owner's tax evaluation notice to verify your residence township, range, and section. it looks like you Do need them. but typically, any car/truck that is over 20 years old doesn't do smog tests. so, you will need all the smog stuff to make you current to pass the tests.

Well thank you for the info. Looks like I will be registering my truck in payson using a friends address.

During that stretch of time, some trucks did, and some didn't. It was mostly based on weight. Over a certain weight was considered heavy duty and they didn't come with them. Is the emission label still legible on the shroud support near the radiator? If so, that should tell you what you need.

The quick way to tell if it came with cats or not is to look at the fuel filler neck. If it's wide open no cats it was a leaded fuel truck. If it has the little flapper or a smaller opening it had cats it was a unleaded fuel truck...

if you are going to licenses your truck in a NO SMOG area..BE CAREFUL... I live in pinal county,,1/2 is smog-1/2 not...
and i got pulled over when i was working in mesa for a non- smogged vehicle and working in a smog zone???HOW???simple
turns out that it if you work in a area that smogs and commute from a non smog area,, need emissions...HOW DO THEY KNOW???
simple...if your year tags are brown w/ white letters,,non-smog are white w/ brown letters..
if your truck is titled in a different area,,and your drivers license says you're living in phoenix,,it's illegal and they can impound your truck and take your plates..you wont get new plates till you comply..
I had some friends happen to them..
i got lucky because my license proved that i live in non-smog area..
call your friend first and ask him color of tags w/ letters..check them with your dads tags..make sure exp. is same..

Mini, my 78 C-10 had factory cat, yet my cousin's 77 C-10 didn't. I believe 78 was the first year of cats on a half-ton truck.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I understood that they started putting cats on trucks in 75. If the truck had a GVW under 6001 lbs it was fitted with cats, if it was over (heavy duty trucks) it didn't have cats. I was looking into it because my 75 GMC Sierra Classic never had cats on it (but I didn't own it until 1999). I have the F44 Heavy Duty Chassis option which puts my truck at 6200 GVW so I am pretty sure it never had cats on it.
