72 Blazer Rear Disc Brake Conversion - help.
 

This is my first time posting. Were can i find the least expensive disc brake conversion kit for my 72 blazer? My rear drums are shot.
I really appreciate anyones help.

ECE has a nice kit. easy to install and they are the best people to deal with.

i do not care for any rear disc kit that has the e-brake in the caliper....to complicated and a chance for things to seize up. much better to have a drum brake e-brake that is housed behind the brake rotor. 87-88 daytonas had the former style and it was very problematic. 1989 and newer dodge fwd's (and neon's) with rear disc had the later/better style that is problem free and much easier to work on.

remember that a drum shoe has a larger swept area than a disc pad and so works great holding a vehicle still and the shoes only need to be replaced due to extreme age when the linings fall off the metal part. i'd prefer to use a factory rear disc brake package from the same manufacture (GM in this case) so that parts are easy to get. i bet a lot of aftermarket brake kits use their own pads and parts, etc so not easy to just go down to the local store. i want to put 3/4 ton 2000+ rear disc on the back of my 72 burb 2wd 8 lug. if i too much money, i'd swap out the 10.5 FF 14 bolt axle for a 2000+ 11.5 FF axle.....that would totally killer.

Stock axles?

Might be easier to just repair your existing drums IMO.

Repairing those would only take an afternoon in the driveway as oppossed to the amount of work needed to go disc.

Plus, add in the fact that not all disc kits have e-brake capacity, then there's even more work.

I agree. the rear brakes on these things are easy and fairly cheap except for drums. Still it will still be cheaper than disk. I can understand wanting to install rear disk brakes. Possibly in hopes of better stopping power. But I don't think it is worth the hassle. I wonder if it will make a difference in braking. I'd really like to get mine to stop better. But I think I will try the 3/4 ton M/C swap first.

That's the best first step, 2nd step is to loose the rubber brake lines and replace em with a set of stainless steel braided lines, those two thing's alone will make a big difference believe it or not.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Glock's brackets for camaro/caprice rear discs: LINKAGE I think I did mine for around $400 total.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. I think i might just try rebilding the drums, and upgrading the brake lines first.

hey blue i got 2 factory calipers and 2 rotors from kragen and ordered a rear disk brake bracket kit w/hardware from ebay. total was about 400 $s
