Powerglide parts/kit?

So at my new job (working for a dealer selling cars/trucks) I spoke to the head trans guy. He would be willing to put a glide together for me if I supply the parts. So, I'm wanting to know what are the good parts :)

Trans brake
Shift kit
Clutches
Bands

All the stuff I need.. Is there a kit that others have used? I would love some advise here. Thanks in advance..

Re: Powerglide parts/kit?

Just stay away from the BTE crap!!! Worst junk I ever bought. $4000 topsportsman glide lasted 6 passes behind a little 800HP motor. Like that would survive behind a real TopSportsman motor!!! Call Hughes and talk with Tony. He will fix you up and put a kit together with what you need.
But I will say,,, if the builder doesn't know what you need to make it live behind that animal your building,, I think I'd find another builder. PG's are about as simple as it gets and reasonably tough, but they were never intended for this kind of power. Pretty much takes a builder knowing where the weak links are to build it right. Definately DEFINATELY insist on a hardened turbo input shaft. No sence having to buy PG convertors when you can order the 'right' Vasco input and use regular ol TH convetors.
I haven't built a glide in a long long time so I won't profess to remember what all you want to change, but here's another little tip,, the kevlar bands are not all the hoopla they are cracked up to be in a glide. Use a 'hi-friction' band from Hughes and the Hughes brake/valve body and r/t's willbe lightening quick and CONSISTANT.
