olds diesel swap

Ok guys, I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this but I have a '78 c10 and I live in California so I have to smog it. I recently had a 1979 chevy with a goodwrench 350 diesel offered to me for next to nothing. I'd like to swap this into my 78 c10 temporarily to get it re-registered as a diesel then pull it out and put my 396 bbc into it so I won't have to worry about smog. Does anyone know what would be involved in the swap? I'm hoping I won't have to make any permanent modifications, and I'm not worried about time as I'm off work for a few weeks. Any input would be great.

no flack or info from me but if you do this, once its been altered from a registered diesel to a gas motor, cant the state bust your chops as improperly registered? fine you for falsifying the record or something?

My cop buddy told me they can mess with you if they really want to, but he as well as other cops will rarely the fact that it says diesel on the registration, but has a gas motor in it. I'm really not that worried about it considering I won't drive it that often anyways.

Will have to use the tranny with it BOP bolt pattern and the torque converter is different from gas and diesel.need all the belt drive stuff off of the diesel. (Oldsmobile style on the diesel) Glow plug relay and wiring. If I think of anything else I will post it.

I'm thinking it will be fairly simple and straight forward since I'll have the other complete donor truck. I'm just not sure if there is anything major, for the most part it seems like a bolt in deal.

I have seen your dually cruising around P'ville! Looks sick in person. Are you sure that the ref would sign off on a gas to diesel swap?? I know lots of guys who bought diesel Vins and swapped, but never heard of someone getting a gas to diesel swap legal.
