Frame /cab question from a new guy
Hi guys im new here,i've been restoring cars for years but always liked the 67-72 trucks so im headed that way. Are the 72 Blazer/Jimmy frames the same as the shortbox truck frames? I have a nice 72 Jimmy 4x4 frame and would like to build a shortbox on it.Also you mention the 1/2 ton 3/4 ton cab mounts are different, can you use a 3/4 ton cab to build a 1/2 ton truck and if so do you just need the thinner rubber mount bushings or ??? Remember this will be a 1/2 ton 4x4 shorty Any help would be appreciated,i know nothing about these trucks. Thanks in advance

Re: Frame /cab question from a new guy
Nope, the blazer/jimmy frames are about 8" - 10" shorter than the shortbed frames.
as for the other question, i'm not too sure. anyhow, welcome to the site. |
Re: Frame /cab question from a new guy
Ok can i take the front end/springs/drive shaft/transfer case out of the blazer frame and put it in a two wheel drive shortbox frame and make it 4wd or are the holes not there for that exchange?

Re: Frame /cab question from a new guy
swapping those items to a 2wd frame can be done, but it's not a direct swap. the frames of a 2wd and 4wd are different. i plan on doing that to my 2wd in a couple of years or so.

Re: Frame /cab question from a new guy
the cab mounting questions...
the cab is the same, c-10 - c-30, and also the same as the K series. The frame on a 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton is one part number, and all the rest of them are the other number. So a 1/2 ton 4X4 would be the same as all 3/4 ton and one ton trucks. |
Re: Frame /cab question from a new guy
So is it just best to start with a 4x4 instead of trying to convert one over or is it not that much work?
