1971 D44 outer axle shaft...

I am trying to track down a replacement outer shaft for a D44 in a 1971 K10...I ordered one from the local Spicer dealer and the one the got me is not correct. Are these shafts the same as what would be on like a 1976 K5 Blazer D44. Anybody have a Spcer part number???

Thanks in advance....

Chris

Chris

No, they switched to a bigger u-joint in '73. You can use the entire inner/outer shaft combo from a later model axle though.

What is the Spicer u-joint used in the 72 and older open knuckle D44? Sorry, I am kinda new to the older D44 scene. I am trying to help a friend out and all my experience in 4x4 stuff is newer D44 and D60

260-x series in the older ones and 297-x series in the newer ones. These are not current Spicer part numbers, but the series number that is known in the offroad community.

What about a Spicer number for the outer axle stub shaft?

It might be more cost affective to find used shafts. I use to have several sets of thease laying around and allways took them with me out wheeling, they brake with my heavy foot hehehehe
You may as well get the bigger 297 shafts while you have it apart, they just slide right in.
Or
Aftermarket shafts from WARN, Yukon, Superior and several other names.
Check this site out as they have alot of info and parts:
http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog...axleshafts.htm
also
http://www.wfoconcepts.com/index.html
They don't have much listed on their website but I know this guy deals in new & used parts so give him a call and may work out for you?
