83 Short Step. First vehicle=First Project

What's up everyone. I'm Nick, 17 years old, from just outside of Wichita, Kansas. This is my 83 Stepside. Can't wait to start on it and learn from everyone along the way! :chevy:

Didn't have a stereo in it, so that was the first thing my dad and I did.

Haha, we didn't have any wood to build boxes yet, so we cut the holes in a little box, stuffed it full of paper towels, and called it good till we can do somethin better!

Thanks for the comments guys! I'll keep this updated as we continue doing work on this beast.

Sorry to say, but better than cardboard. For a first truck you have a nice looking rig there!

Yeah the corner speaker brackets that Jeff is making are nice. I have a set ordered for his next run of them. Joe231 has a set that I have checked out, and they are slick. It would free up some seat space for ya!

Looks good man, defintely a nice starting point.

Those 6x9 brackets are real nice, I might get a set. Thanks for the comments. Right now I'm just enjoying driving this truck, it's straight as an arrow and runs great, I think we can all agree these are great trucks!

Looks good man, I need to do the same to mine. Suprising how dirty it gets just sitting there.

That is a straight truck. What does the bed floor look like? There is a company here in OKC called Mar-K. They are great guys, and are a Made In USA company.

It's a wood bed. It's pretty bad, I'll post some pic's soon. I don't want to spend alot on re-doing the bed, though, because I'll just end up cutting it up when I bag it anyways.

Re: 83 Short Step. First vehicle=First Project

You could always do a raised wood floor after you bag it. Never seen a wood one done that way, but I bet it would look cool.

That's a cool idea! I've never seen it either. Might consider doing that! :metal:

sweet! a raised wood bed.. that would be awsome! do it.. post pics :chevy:

JohnC 06-22-2009 05:19 PM

Re: 83 Short Step. First vehicle=First Project

I've seen a few of the fleet sides that have raised their whole floor instead of jsut cutting a hole for the rear end to raise up. It's just a nice touch, and sometimes it's so subtle that people have to look twice. Definitely worth looking into in my opinion.

Re: 83 Short Step. First vehicle=First Project

It's goin' to be quite a while before that happens! But John do you got any pic's of that? The way I would like to do it is make it raise up, like were a tunnel would be for the notches

Ok, I see what you mean! Yeah that would be sweet with a wood bed.

I think so. Just that little touch that makes it unique.
