New to the forums 71 chevy long bed Harrisonburg, VA
Well back in 2001 when i graduated high school i asked my dad if i could have his old truck, he said yes, but of course at the time i went off to college, still never graduated, as i'm STILL working towards that goal.
Anyway, i thought maybe he forgot about it, but a couple weekends ago i was home visiting and he asked me when i was going to start working on his truck. That got me thinking, that not only would it make me feel great, but himself feel great. The truck itself needs a LOT of work. I'm going to do everything myself. my plan of attack as this is going to be a LONG project. is Disassemble the body panels, and salvage what is worth saving by stripping them and sealing them i prevent further deterioration. Next would be to either source a cab with little to no rust(i know easier said than done) or start welding patch panels etc etc. Sand and repaint the frame as I'm not doing any wild drop just something mild for a clean sleek look but will ride on air as i would like to enjoy driving the truck. new drive line either Throttle body motor or LS series motor. Then of course all the fun of sanding and prep work for paint Paint interior and stereo then drive it, or give it BACK to my dad. I know i have a lot on my hands, and i plan on doing a LOT of reading so hopefully you won't see me asking the newb questions of what welder, or what paint, or what size wheels and tires etc etc. Hopefully i can contribute through out my process. I have a goal of about 3-5 years to complete it. I'm not looking for a wild custom, just something that will feel like new, and drive like new with modern enhancements. -Andrew |
