Looking at a Typhoon (Not a WTB)
I'm looking at a 93 GMC Typhoon and I was wondering if anyone
on here has a Syclone or a Typhoon? Anything special to look at when considering one of these? Any advice you can give me will be helpful. (Helping to convince my Wife I need it would be nice) Thank you in advance for any replies that I get on this subject ;) |
Re: Looking at a Typhoon (Not a WTB)
Sorry can't help you on this. Don't know much about them except I drove one one time on a lot. Salesman let me take it by myself. The thing would fly and handled great. Look at the super charger close and make sure it's all there.;):chevy:

Always liked those. Good luck. Turbo all wheel drive those things were ultimate sleepers!!

Re: Looking at a Typhoon (Not a WTB)
They are awesome! One of the key things to look for is the condition of the turbo charger itself. They can get very expensive.
Here is link to the most popular forum for them. http://www.syty.net/ |
Re: Looking at a Typhoon (Not a WTB)
I am the previous owner of syclone #1428.......and damn do i miss it. you want to look at the transfer case and the transmission. the ty transfer case was better than the syclone, and the 700r4 will fail even under stock power levels. the front propshaft is a weak link also. there are TONS of things that can be done for those trucks and the syty community is a really tight nit group. when i get finished with my 72 swb I am gonna look into a ty this time. good luck with it.

Re: Looking at a Typhoon (Not a WTB)
^ yep, pretty much nailed the weak spots that I know of, the trans and transfer case. Def check the turbo and all related components. Also the upper control arm bushing seem to be a weak spot, even on regular dimes. if the sy/ty was driven hard and not maintained, those uppers need checkin(easy to see under hood)
The regular fluid condition and chassis inspection, body inspection etc. |
