Baby Steps

Pics of my rear end rebuild. Looking at the pics you would think this took about 30 minutes. I guess I have been watching too many tv resto shows.
First pic is before the tear down. Second is after sandblasting and grinding. Third is after shooting two coats of PPG Epoxy Primer. The last two are with the rear end replaced and a new set of 3/4 ton springs with five inches of lift. Custom made from Suspension King in Pennsylvania. Nice fit and helpful guys! I went through the rear end and replaced seals as the gears and bearings looked really good. Planning on shooting the chassis again with a two part bed liner product. Leaning towards Al's Liner.. It's over 100 now in Texas so I am done for awhile! |

Re: Baby Steps
Getting the old springs off is probably the longest task, next to the sandblasting of course. I have at least 4-5 solid weekends into it spread out over 4-5 months.
Neighbor kid, in first grade, asked when I was gong to be done with it? I told him about the time he graduates from highschool!! No hurry as the fun is in the "trip." |
Re: Baby Steps
True that!

I always wondered how to get under the truck for painting. It looks kind of scary though. |

Re: Baby Steps
Good work. It took a few weeks of after work work to replace ball joints and anything in between on my 4x4 a few years ago. I figured it would be several hours. Nope.
There's a shortbed down the road a ways that has had the front wheels off for a few years so... |
