I admit I sometimes cheat only using a floor jack if it is a quick fix but never again.

I am a huge advocate of jack stands. matter of fact, I use double the amount everytime I'm under a vehicle. always.

^ No doubt about it. Doesn't take much more time or effort to set up a set of jack stands, I use them every time...

I got squashed one time under my CJ7. I'm a bit redundant in my methods now. I use jack stands and I also push a 24" fir round under the side im under.

I have heard too many story of things like this. I agree the jack stand in the video even looked like a good one. Perhaps not located in the right place? Only other thing I could think of is trying to lossen or tighten a bolt and was pulling sideways too hard, got it rockin.... Sad to say the least, horible way to go, workin on your baby.

Yes indeed always use as much saftey as possible. They fall in split second. Had two of them on me in years past. Not smart to cut corners to save time.

I use solid wood blocks...lots of them, I do not even trust jack stands

Does look like jack stands were used and on a level surface. Any number of things could have happened. For me it's just a vivid reminder to always think safety first. I've been working off 8' ladders insulating my 12' shop ceiling. Went last week and bought scaffolding and making a safety rail before I go any further.

I won't get under a car unless there are jack stands. I think I should chalk the tires too from now on. Terrible

Do any of you guys do what I do.....after getting on jackstands or whatever, I simulate a 9 mag Earthquake by shaking my rig hard to make sure it can't move and is solid!!!!!! Such a freaking unexcusable way to die. That's too bad for the family.

Back in the 70's, A 16 year old friend of mine died this way. He was using cement blocks to hold up his 64 Chevelle. Never will forget finding out about it by seeing it on the news that evening.

Like I said. I use a fir round that is larger in diameter that it is tall. There is no way it can tip. After a dislocated shoulder, many broken ribs, torn cartilage and a tattoo of a trailer ball nut bruised into my shoulder I wont get under anything unless I know there is a reliable safe guard. Metal on metal does not create enough friction for my comfort.

Even with jack stands, I always block frame up with big logs on end. And I always work with a phone within reach. Shake hell out of truck before going under to work to make sure nothing is going to happen.

And then Itry not to think about it when under truck, but even then, sometimes the mind starts to wonder "what if..."

Not scared of much, but working under the truck (even with all these safety features) always gives me a small case of the shivers.
