Frenching headlights?
 

I'm wanting to french the headlights on my '52. But I don't want the deep dished look with chrome or painted trim rings. I was wanting to use the original trim rings welded to the fenders with the headlight mounted from behind so that the headlight will be set back just a little into the trim ring. I find it's alot cleaner and more subtle look. Since the original trim rings are stainless they don't really weld too good. Does anyone know how to weld these on or are there any steel ones that can be bought? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

so you mean old school!!! i think mine were braised on.. the hard part is adjustng after their installed

that's exactly the look I'm after. Talking to other guys it seems that braizing might be the only way to go

About half way down on this page there are some headlight bezels for 52 to 54 mercurys. I believe they are steel and can be welded on. Not sure how you would change the lights once they are finished but this is what the old timers did before the kits.
If I can figure out how to change the lights I am going to use them on my 57 truck.

As long as they are the same size they should work, thanks! To change the lights you flip the mounting screw clips around so that they face the rear of the fender and then you slip the light up from inside the fender and screw it into place. Some guys say its a pain but really how often do you have to change your headlights?

sorry, now that I take a closer look at those they still aren't quite what I'm looking for. I remember taking a look at those a while back and getting my hopes up upon first glance. I'm not wanting any trim ring at all. Like in the pic from mylow53.

Im not sure how the stainless would accept paint but If you have access to a tig welder or know someone who does I believe the filler rod of choice is ER-309.

yeah that was the other problem, stainless and paint don't get along as far as I know
