Put some buddy buckets in my 71K20

Ive always liked the buddy buckets, the bucket seats in my truck were gray Astro van seats. They were pretty comfortable, but just didnt go with the eventual look Im going for.

I bought two sets of buddy buckets and took the two best seats and centers for the set that was going in my truck. I sent the frame and the center console box to the sand blasters. Then I stripped all the upholstery off the seats and center cushions. I picked up a new set of seat covers and was ready to do my first ever upholstery job.

I bought a hog ring pliers and some hog rings down and the Co-op. I already had a decent staple gun, so I was ready to do some damage. I had always heard you should put the seat covers out in the sun to make em more pliable, so I just dropped the tailgate on my truck and did it all outside on my truckbench.

Over all its pretty simple job. But where the seats join together its pretty much good luck and hope for the best. Some weird flappy piece of material is supposed to wrap around and hide frame and foam. In the picture the part with the pleats on the drivers seat looks funky, but its just weird shadows and reflections. It is a little lumpy across the very top of the seat though..oh well. I just did the best I could, this isn't a show truck.

I had painted the frame semi gloss black already, so I was ready to bolt the seats on. Started with the passenger side, simple. Put the drivers side on and the adjuster arm was on the wrong side...WTHeck? I had put the passenger seat on the wrong side  Working upside down and backwards throws me off.

Now I have to decide whether to keep the black metal door panels or upholster them to match the buckets.

I also have to order some Lizard Skin sound and heat coating so I can yank up the lovely carpet and lay down my new rubber mat flooring. (You don't put carpet in a working truck, heh)

Im broke right now so thats going to have to wait...one step at a time =)

I got them from PICKMUP, I think he's a dealer for PUI, or a name close to that (I'm sorry I don't remember the name on the tag)

They look great!Don't you just love it when a little info from here,a few parts, and a little bit of time and patience make such a difference. The only problem is when i do something like that it makes other stuff look more worn so i want to do something to remedy that too. It's a vicious cycle.

I hear what you mean about a vicious cycle. I'm trying super hard to make this a one step at a time truck and keep it drivable at all times. I even bought a little peep mirror for it when I had the stock mirrors off for rebuilding.

With my panel in the background slowly coming together it also limits what Im able to afford to do to this truck, which is probably a good thing...other wise this would probably be in a big pile trying to figure out what to do next...

Any before pics? Would just like to see the foams you had to work with for something to compare mine to.

Good job. Mine are at the shop due back with new foam, n covers. I wasn't as brave after sinking that much into seats on this part of the project. Hope you are satisfied with your new seats.

You did one hell of a job! Where did you find the seats?

I dont have a picture of the seats before...I do have another set of buddy buckets that look pretty much the same though I can post up.

I can get a pic of the center folded down tonight when I get home from work.

I got two sets of seats from board members. I used the two passenger seats (they are the same as the drivers side) since they had the best foam. I probably should have just gone ahead and got one seat and purchased new foam.

Now I have one extra complete set. I have them for sale on Craigslist locally for 400 bucks (that puts me backwards 50 bucks), but only lowball offers so far. If they dont sell Ill just hold em until the fall swapmeet. I know they will sell there.
