Looking For Blazer Tank Fill Ideas...

Anyone have any better Blazer gas tank fill ideas?
I could use something nice that will work in the stock hole in the quarter panel. I just got my alum tank from FuelCellGuy (Mark), looks nice!
I just don't like the stock cap fill tube. What have you guys seen or used?
Thanks, Frank

I have seen some of the guys here put in a filler door behind the lt rear side marker. It is pretty trick. You can't even tell its there. You'll have to search for the thread. There are plenty of pics on how to do it. Hope that helps. Later, Mario.

What about one of the old Dodge Challenger fuel doors?

I like the marker light method; I'm gonna do it on my '72 2wd blazer.

I thought about the cuda / charger/ challenger flip lid too, just not sure about how it would sit withthe curve on the body. Behind the left taillight would be the slickest IMHO.

Filled the stock hole and installed a flush mount door, fairly minor body work and it looks pretty stock too.

I'm going to try something without getting into paint & body, at this time. Needs to fit inside the stock hole.
I measured & ordered some motorcycle smooth alum caps & filler bungs. Maybe I can redo the stock filler tube & get the cap close to flush with the body and do away with the big rubber donut & tube sticking out of the body so far.
I'll let you know...

I've thought about a boat gas filler.

I've seen one like this slightly recessed into the body that looked good. About the same as the Challenger one mentioned earlier.

VT..What did that door come from?

Re: Looking For Blazer Tank Fill Ideas...

I hate mail order!!!
I ordered a low profile stainless cap that should fit in the stock hole if I cut & shorten the fill tube & weld in a matching threaded "bung".
One internet company sent the bung, but they send LH threads instead of RH.
Another company sent the cap & it is completely different from the picture and will not fit flush.
Both were ordered from a tech expert "person" not just a number, but still got them wrong.
Three weeks wasted while I wait again. It sure is nice when you can walk in and see the parts you are buying before you put out the bucks.
I'll let you know if it ever comes together.

I never want to rush these things and get them wrong...or I am really just S-L-O-W! Here is what I finally finished.
There was no cutting, welding, grinding or painting on the finished body...and that was the idea.
Here is the modified fill tube with the motorcycle fill cap. It fits flush.
I also got the alum tank installed---sweet.

Sorry, pics are too big...must fix first.

I cut and it was too short...so, I cut it three more times and it was still too short! Old joke, but I did cut several small amounts and fit it a lot.

Here's before and after...
...and the new Fuel Cell Guy alum tank. I put a temp clear fuel filter in rear so I can watch it. The white foam piece is just so it won't be bouncing around back there. I did some cutting and tapping on tank to run some of my own style fittings and got a lot of junk in the tank.

Looks great! Sorry, but now I want to copy you...any leads on where you pickmup that motorcyle threaded insert. Sorta sounds like an old cowboy movie, Lone Ranger and Tonto. Yes Cheema sobie!

Nice tank BTW, next on my list of things to do

Wow, when you said flush you weren't kidding. I think I would have a hard time getting my fingers on that to turn it

You could always use the little key/tool that comes with it. Engages the little square cutouts.

i got a square filler for a street rod application and cut it down for my blazer, the welding and fab work for this is pretty easy....getting it to flow downward and getting this connected to the tank took a while.i really like the look though.
