Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
I think it would be a cool thread if people post some cool history of there truck. You know like maybe your truck was once owned by someone famous or maybe orderd with some rare options or hell maybe you found it in bottom of a pond. Who knows lets here some stories.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
My '64 doesn't have any interesting history that I know of. BUT the '72 K10 Plow truck does. The previous owner was a nutjob, and he ended up driving the truck off of a 20 foot bridge. The damage is present.... Mostly the Cab just sitting on the frame, it's not mounted.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
Nothing cool about the history on mine...what I like about it is the lack of history. When it was first bought it went straight from dealer lot to camper lot where they installed the cool cabover in my avatar pic which meant it sat more than it was driven, the cabover also preserved the interior from the sun and kept the bed cherry the tailgate has minor scratches from sitting in the rafters of the po's garage and still has factory paint on the strike latches.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
My Sons 64 was actually hit in the backend by a Cement truck while being parked on the side of the road. As a testiment of how tuff these old trucks are, I took it to a frame specialist and he told me it was so close to being strait that he thought it was a waste of money to straiten it. I had him straiten it anyway because I am one of those guys that knows if something isnt just right it will bug me. I feel it was the best $300 I have spent. I figure if it can survive a smashing by a cement truck I can feel pretty good about my Son driving it.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
I bought mine from my brother in 1984. I worked for two weeks cleaning windows in a school to get the $80. I had to throw in 5 pairs of blue jeans that I had out grown also. I was 13 and he was 18 and I was already bigger than he was. There ya go. 13 years old, $80 and 5 pairs of jeans.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
I bought mine on ebay.
Went to San Diego county to pick it up. When the guy was taking care of all of the paperwork and saw I lived in Ontario- he laughed and said said "Looks like the truck's going back home." He'd moved the truck down to his place the year before, from his Dads place in Ontario- less than a mile and a half from where I live. The truck had spent its entire life just blocks from me apparently. |
Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
My '66 has a kinda regular history; Bought from orig. owner's estate. He was
extremely meticulous (borderline anal). So, I got a '66 Custom Cab that runs and looks like it's still 1966. Just proper maintanence all it's life. So I got a under 100k truck with under 30k driveline thats an orig. high option rig. 1966 C20 V8/th400/Big Back Window-California |

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
Well when I was 15 years old I decided that I wanted a 64-66 BBW SWB Chevy truck so my dad and I drove all over north Alabama trying to find one that I could afford at the time and was in decent shape (haha) So after spending most of the summer with no luck, I found a 1961 SBW SWB 6 miles from my house... $1000 later and I had my first car, at first my first desire was to change the hood for a 62-66 hood but after years of looking at the batman hood I fell in love with it and now prefer the 60-61 hood more.. I have bought and sold it 3 times once for a 1966 Custom BBW SWB Chevy and I have to say now I wouldnt have it any other way. I'm current in the middle of converting mine to a BBW.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
My truck once belonged to my grandfather as a farm truck. And I can remember on several occasions as young boy riding with him to the nearby elementary school for slop to feed his farm animals. After he quit driving, my uncle bought the truck from him and parked it not long after acquiring it.
Twelve years after it was parked, I was 18 and had an itch to build my own hot rod. I had a few hundred dollars saved up but old cars were too high for me to afford. So after searching for weeks, my mother brought to my attention that my uncle had the old truck. I asked my uncle about buying the truck and much to my surprise he decided to give it to me. After 2 years and 2 parts trucks, I am about ready to set the cab of my grandfather's truck (that is about all the sheet metal that was left on the original truck) on a 63' shortbed frame which I have spent all this time working on. I am hoping to at least having it moving under its own power before my grandmother passes on. |

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
My grandpa bought my truck brand new in 1965. had it untill 1978 when he gave it to my dad. My dad drove the hell out of it. I have pictures of me in it when i was a baby and trips to yosemite and yellowstone the beach and all kinds of places throughout my childhood. My dad lost his house in 1996 and gave the truck to me I was living from place to place at the time and kept it in a freinds backyard for a ytear or so until he told me it had to go. I sold it to a guy i was working for for 500 dollars. He had it ever since and I kept in touch with him. 2 months ago he told me he wanted to get rid of it so I was able to get it back!! I now have it and have an 8 month old son that i will give it to after i have my fun with it. I am now 31 years old and am gonna restore it!!! I am happy to have my grandpas truck back and when my son gets it it will be a 4th generation truck!!!

Wow bennydog, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your grand-dad's truck back. I hope that the restoration goes well and you and your son have many fine memories together with it.

Re: Anyone got any cool history about there truck?
I had a 66 stepside that I bought and while I was looking for parts at the pick and pull the guy there told me someone had a truck they wanted to get rid of or part out maybe. Well I went to go look at it and it was a rusty 65 short fleet with a 283 V8. I liked it better then the stepside truck. The price for this truck was me installing sub flooring in her kitchen and maping out and starting the floor tiles she wanted to stick down herself. She just wanted someone to start it for her. She also had a lemon tree that had the best lemons on it. I did take the truck back a few years later to show her what I did with it. Too bad I went with the stepside bed but now I am correcting that.

heres a copy of my welcome area post..
*edit i just copied and pasted this because i'm lazy, but I am your #1 lurker
I have a million questions but i'll start with this intro: Hi, My name is Rodney. (hi rodney) I'm in dallas (old east dallas), long time car guy but i was passed down a 1963 C10, so now i can say truck guy. The '63 was originally purchased by my father, who bought it from his boss, who's dad bought it brand new in Weatherford, TX. My dad bought the truck in 1980. He and my mother had just gotten married that same year. Fast forward a few months of him daily driving the truck but getting nagged about it being in primer and too ugly to be in front of their brand new house. He send the truck to the body shop and they take forever with it. Like almost a year forever. The next year they find out they are pregnant with me. He gave the truck to his father, my grandpa johnnie. That was 1982, and this truck has been in Corsicana, TX these past 27 years. I used to spend the summers with them and play in this truck from as far back as i can remember. I even remember once rolling through downtown corsicana and grandpa getting hung up in the column shift and blowing through a redlight. He told the officer he just got caught between gears and couldnt stop it. We got away that time, i have tried to use the same excuse since and it hasnt' worked. to wrap it up, i just got the truck back from him. He's been hounding me to come get it since 2007 and i have been blowing it off, but i finally found somewhere to keep it wtih tools to work on it so i made some calls and we went and picked it up. PICS http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...railerpic1.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...railerpic2.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/PICT0131.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/PICT0144.jpg okay, so since i got the truck bug, i have been all over craigslist looking for parts or parts trucks anything really. the 63 is Solid but it needs ALOT. So one day i had $1500 in hand and decided that i need a daily driver, something i can get on a job site easier with(my audi don't cut it), somethin still pretty cool, that i can at least get a thumbs up or two. I decided a 73-87 would make the prefect daily. I started seeing them pop up in moderate shape for around $2000. Well i didn't have $2000, i had $1500, and i wanted a truck that day  I ended up finding this 1980 lwb c10. it's pretty solid for the $700 i paid for it, and the fact that i drove it home with a clean title. I've put one tire on it, and got it tagged and inspected. probably $900 total investment. PICS http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...1246727140.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...1246727136.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/PICT0008.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/PICT0005.jpg i got tons of pics but until i start doing some stuff to the trucks they look the same.. as i said i'll be around asking all the dumb questions but hopefully you guys sill like some of my work. So anyways thas my life story, i should get back to the truck now :uhmk: |
