71 C/10 First project.
5 Attachment(s)
Here are some pics of my first project. I learned how to weld on this truck. lol
Rebuilt the 307, replaced rockers, cab corners, and cab supports. In the process of painting now. First paint job too. This truck is going to be a daily driver so I am going with a tough single stage paint. My buddie gave me some Peterbilt Red Imron 5000. Just painted the inside of the cab last night. Doesnt look too bad for the first paint job. :chevy: |

More pics. Sorry for the crappy quality. Took them with my phone.
Finished the inner fenders last night. Next, I need to align the doors and fenders and get ready to spray the cab! |
Re: 71 C/10 First project.
nice looking project.
great paint, but dang, please be careful using it, Imron really is killer paint!!! |

As in "killer" do you mean health hazard? I've heard the old Imron paint was even more deadly. I always wear a mask. Do you know anything else about this paint? It seems to be really tough. Since it is single stage I am wondering if it is going to fade quickly. Thanks for the info. |
Re: 71 C/10 First project.
looking good...

Re: 71 C/10 First project.
yeah, I'm talking about health hazards. it's nowhere near as dangerous as the old imron airliner paint, but it still has isocyanites in it's activator.
Isocyanites are really hazardous, and a supplied air breathing apparatus is recommended. no cartridge respirator is approved for use with them. Also it will absorb easily through your skin, so spray suits must be used, and after use disposed of, or contained in a sealed container until the next use. The auto paints that are branded as imron from dupont do not contain the bad stuff, like your peterbuilt paint does... the thing is, once you are affected chemically induced asthma is what you will have to deal with for the rest of your life!!! some other links you might find scary, but useful http://www.tbirdent.com/Imron%203-5%20HG.htm http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg388.pdf and those were just the first few from google results... be safe, make sure your spray area is well ventilated while and long after spraying. As the paint hardens there are voc's released into the air, and the most deadly are odorless. Being I do work with all sorts of hazardous chemicals, safety is always on my mind. And the story of the fella welding on brake cleaner residue going around kinda hits home to the 'what you don't know will kill you' motto. Be safe! |
Re: 71 C/10 First project.
WOW! Thanks a lot for the info. I really apreciate it. I've never heard of chemically induced athsma. I will definitely be careful from now on.
That paint better last a long time for all that extra trouble. LOL Thanks again! |

Re: 71 C/10 First project.
Looks good - I need to align my front clip when I start getting ready for paint - going to be a PITA for sure...PO already had it off when he gave it to me - so now I get to align it as I go.

More pics. Slowly getting the trim cleaned up and back together. Does anyone know of an easy way to install the wing window and put the doors back together? Maybe a parts diagram or something?
Thanks! |

Installed the bumper and realized that the cab and fenders were off center. Had to loosen all the mounts and move it over about half an inch.
I'll be working on getting the glass back in and interior done tonight. |
Re: 71 C/10 First project.
Here is a link on how to put the doors back together - it actually goes through the tear down which you can reverse to get them finished up.
