Electrical Question
So the Chevy seems to be running fine right now, but I do have a question about our other daily driver ('92 Pathfinder) and thought someone could help - it's an electrical question.
At idle, the voltage gauge drops slightly and the dash lights dim, fan slows slightly, etc. Upon acceleration, everything picks up again. I know the battery is old, or should I be concentrating my efforts on the alternator???? Or, do I just get rid of it and get another Chevy :D. Any thoughts? :canada: :bowtie: :flag: |
First thing I would check is to make sure all your connections are free of corrossion. If all is good there, I would take your truck up to your local auto store and have them test it on one of those remote testing units. It's free and you don't have to remove anything from your truck. :)

Also check your alternator for proper charging and alternator belt. I'd bet loose or worn belt

As stated, check all connections for a good clean path. Check the belt for condition and tightness. A loose belt will sometimes cause this. Having the charging system checked on a machine is a good idea. It's a possibility the alternator is going bad. I think this is the first sign of it.
