1970 Blazer body differences between 2wd and 4x4
 

I need to know exactly what the differences are between a 1970 Blazer 2wd body tub and a 4x4 body tub. I do know the removable trans tunnel is different, what else is different. Reason being is I have a verv very nice 4x4 Blazer and a some what rusted out 2wd Blazer which I plan to do a body swap. I will be keeping the vins and matching 2wd chassis and sitting the 4x4 tub on it. Any and all responses are greatly appreciated.

Non that I'm aware of, why would you expect the two to be different? :confused:

what about like the body mounts area in back? with the frames being diff, the mounts would be i would think.

My 2wd and 4wd both have the same body mounts just on the 2wd one of them doesnt connect to any thing on the frame. The only difference I know of is most 2wds come with a low hump and most 4wds have the high hump.

So what's the frame difference? I just found a 2wd crossmember and front suspension setup that I was planning to use on a Jimmy 4x4 conversion to 2wd. I thought the crossmember would just bolt up...

I believe the difference is in the rear of the frame. On 2wd the frame flares out to accept the top of the coil springs on the trailing arm 2wd trucks. The leaf spring frame is different. I am also researching this so I am hoping those that know more than I will speak up.

BTW what did you pay for the crossmember and front suspension?

It's a 5 lug disk setup that's pretty rusty. I'm paying $200 because he's giving me all the pieces. Seems a little high, but folks are buying these just to do the disk upgrade... I haven't got the pieces yet and we're playing email tag, so it's not a done deal...

$200 is not to bad of a deal, ECE wanted $350 just for the front suspension and engine cradle , plus shipping, most likely $450 or more total from them. I got lucky and found a 3/4 ton complete front end for $50, but I have to use an ECE conversion drop spindle to make everything work out. I planned on running drop spindles anyway, and the price for the conversion spindle was the same as the standard one, so not a big deal.

I picked it up yesterday (heavy...) and it's got new rubber everywhere! Looks like someone rebuilt it just before wrecking their truck. It's got a lot of surface rust from sitting on a pallet outside, but really looks like a great start. I wouldn't hesitate just bolting it up, checking the bearings and running it.

Of course I won't. I'll take it apart, clean it up paint it and reassemble. The shims are missing on the upper a-arm on one side, and the other side looks like it has 10 shims a side... What's with that? I'll look at some trucks this weekend and see what they use. I'll try to get pics on Monday, but I'm out of town all weekend. Later, Tony

I have a cradle I couldn't give away so I shelved it for future whatever's :lol:

The Trans hump is the only thing that I know of, I'll let you know soon if
that is the only diffy since I sold my 4wd chassis and built a 2wd chassis.
