Cab Swap

i've been looking for a 73-75 cab to replace the cab on my 79. for two reasons, there are two large rust holes on the cowl just below the windshield, and i really want my truck to be smog exempt. and the rust holes are going to cost close to a grand to repair... :(
so it's been recommended to me that i should swap cabs and kill two birds with one stone, as i would re-register the truck as a 73, 74, or 75 making it smog exempt in california :metal:
i found a truck on craigslist that i'm going to look into, if it's rust free then the cab may be a candidate.

anyway, i know it wouldn't be a weekend project, but i know there are a ton of knowledgeable minds on here that could give me some advice on how best to go about this swap ;)

Re: Cab Swap

if you really hump it you could do it in a weekend.i have tore 2 of these down in the past month. one in 7 hours with a friend and the other in 6 with my wife. there are not many bolts holding the front clip and the cab on. swapping wiring, carpet, seats etc will take a little longer. you could easy start one weekend and piddle through the week to finish the following weekend if needed. there are a few pics of mine in the build thread (project dads truck) in my sig

thanks, ya i've already pretty much replaced the entire interior so i'm pretty familiar with how everything goes in and comes out. but my main concerns were the steering column and all the wiring.

Re: Cab Swap

The ignition switch has a different pigtail on the older truck and i had to massage the neutral switch to make it work. i put a 86 column in my 74 c10. at the moment i am still using the wiper switch on the dash.
