Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
This winter I'm getting rid of my 64-66 GMC single-hump dash in favour of an older double hump dash. I THINK that it was 60-63 chevy's that came with em, but I'm not sure. Also, what sizes of trucks came with these that'll fit, just C10's, 20's and 30's, or were the bigger trucks the same? Any help would be great, thanks!

Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
Yes,'60-'63
Up to c-60 I believe '63 being the best year (not because I have a few) 1st year for independant front suspension same cab mount setup 63-66 single hole for MC instead of 2 (MC and hyd clutch resevior) check out the "this I know" sticky T |
Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
Ill have to disagree and say 62 was the best year ;)

Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
Well, after struggling to pull my front control arms off (lots of heat and really BIG wrenches) I almost want to agree with Scott:lol (love your avatar!:metal:): But, the double wishbone upfront and the trailing arms with coil springs in back makes my 63 ideal, IMO.
The only drawbacks in 63 I find is the reversed A pillar makes it impossible to have a functioning one piece door glass, and the gas tank options are limited. |
Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
36 dodge coupes had a mechanism that the glass moved horizontially first before descending and the reverse of course when you cranked it shut. You can install a tank between your rails where the spare mounted beneath the truck.

Haha, all I need is the dash, but thanks for the entertainment as well
I'll have to keep my eyes out for a 60-63 parts truck. |

LOL. Sorry we hijacked your thread! Thats pretty much the norm around here though, isn't it.
Yes, I really like the double hump, but the single hump looks good too. Neither approach is "right" or "wrong", just different. Good luck in your search for the dash/cab. Oh, and please send some cool Canadian air down this way to me and Protrash...were about cooked! |
Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
I just took a 63 dash out and have it installed in my 65 I am working on. One bolt is in place in the original holes of the 65 and a little fab work to the sides and spot welding it back in and it will be good as new. I will go take some pictures and post them soon.

Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
Muddpile,I know you have the fab skills soooo
have you thought of trying to fab up a double hump GMC dash? That might be cool I have some extras if decide to give it a shot T |
Re: Double hump dash, what years and sizes?
I thought about it, using the wide hump and just going from there with the same piece off the stock GMC dash of another truck. Glove box door would have to be fabbed, but an old gauge cluster with the appropriate welding could build a decent door.... Hmmmm......
