rear trailing arm suspension
 

so my 69 came with the trailing arm rear suspension and im just wondering, for those who are running with theirs still, how they like it.

debating whether to just buy an aftermarket trailing arm kit or should i go all out with the triangulated 4link.

the truck will be a street legal drag truck, trailered to the track but able to drive to local events and shows.

Most the time your going to get a "they work great with little modifacation"

There will be a few others that say go 4 link.

Personally I run the factory arms as do a few of the even faster guys. They can work very well with next to nothing for mods.

In the videos and pictures posted I had:

Put a different spring in it with a block to lower it
Moved the upper mounting point for the rear shock (only to accomidate the slightly longer shock)
Made adjustable mounts for the front eye of the control arm: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...highlight=rear


Since then I have:

Made a 1 3/4" x .120 wall antiroll bar eliminating the factory one that was on it
Added spring pockets to the rear control arms so I could cut my springs further or allow me to use a non pigtail spring if I choose to swap it out.

Still need to swap the rubber bushing in the front eyelet for a set of polly ones I have.

Some weld the center of the arms together. I didn't.

excellent, thanks a ton man, that link is very helpful with the pictures. im definitly going to look into doing something like that with the adjustability.

How are you finding that set-up? Is it helping you hook up better? I see from your videos you got some tire lift up front so your getting some good traction to the back on the launch it looks like.

I have stock trailering arms. Planning on changing shocks and springs later. Best 60' so far has been a 1.58 on my set up, but now my slicks are about worn out. Super73 knows his stuff when it comes to suspension...

WT Deuce? That's fn Bad A. ALL right, I have ?'s
I'm about to invest and gear's and new tire size. I'm currently running 4:10 with a 28x10.5. I have TH400 w/ Brake (stall 4000) w/ brake on 4600. I would like to Launch hard and dip into the 11's. Current best is 12.0's

I run a 4.30 gear and 33 x 10.5w tire. I would run more gear if I didn't have a bottle.

cool man, i just went through some of your build thread there and im just curious how you like your front suspension? i hear it can be a pain getting the steering lined up and workin proper. and another question on what exactly the rear suspension has done to it?

please enlighten us on this 'radius' drilling you did to the t-arm mounts. How did you measure/figure out how big of an arc to drill the holes on?

KEEP YOUR TRAIL ARMS , MINES NOT AS FAST AS SOME OF THE OTHER GUYS HERE, MINE WILL ALMOST GET ON THE BACK BUMPER WITH STOCK SUSP,ON THE TRANS BRAKE.:chevy:
