To Cut, or not To Cut?

Hello all - I have a custom '69 C10 and need a radio system to finish it all up. I have yet to cut the dash and am considering it cause I just don't like the look of the radios that can fit our inserts. I would still get something that looked a little retro, but not as cheap as the USA ones and others out there. The truck is not original, kinda mixed between years, so what are your thoughts on cutting it to make a standard deck fit??

depends.. f you choose a deck that matches the rest of your interior and lighting scheme.. cut away.. go for it!
but i would use some of the metal cut off to make a "support" bracket for the bottom side of yoru reciever.. just to be anal...

sometimes due to the demands of current technology you have to make sacrifices.. and cutting a dashboard to me seems like a easy one to make..

at least you arent cutting apart the dashpad or glove box or center console....

You don't have to cut. Brother's Trucks has a unit in stock that will provide you with an decent base with alot of expandability.

You can also install an aftermarket headunit in the glovebox.

We jsut did that in Dad's El Camino and I do not recommend it unless you buy an auxilary RF controller.

Well, I decided not to cut it. It looks so good untouched! So, I ordered the radio from Manes and should have it soon. Now I'm wondering how hard it's going to be splicing into the wiring harness!!!

Should be easy enough. There's some diagrams posted here and in the main Electrical forum.
