What exactly does a Dana 60 do?

What do you mean? It is a rearend.

They do make a posi and non posi Dana is just the name of the company that makes the rearend.

Dana is the company, 60 is the model. 4x4 have a Dana 44 in the front. Newer Fords use a Dana 50 in the truck and Dodge's a Dana 70 in the rear. GM and Ford use corporate axles in the rear of their newer trucks. Jeeps use a Dana 30 in the front and their are other variants out there as well.
