Steering Squeak
The '05 GMC Sierra (40,900 miles) has a squeak, mostly noticeable when parking. When I turn all the way to the left something squeaks, when I turn the wheel all the way to the right it sounds more like a tire is squealing. Brand new tires, but the same stuff happened on the old ones. Power Steering reservoir is full. Should I just grease up all the fittings in the front end and see what happens or is this yet another famous problem for these trucks?
Any ideas? Thanks. |
Re: Steering Squeak
it could be the bearing at the I shaft is worn and needs to be replaced. it`ll do this when the bearings get a flat spot

Re: Steering Squeak
I can't imagine something like that, the truck only has 41,000 miles. It's just a very slight squeak...but enough to irritate you.

Re: Steering Squeak
If it only happens when you are turned at the outer locks, then I imagine it is just the usual power steering pump screech when it is under heavy load, like at the extremes of the your wheel turn.

Re: Steering Squeak
Yeah, just at the outer locks. I'll stop worrying...But whenever I hear it I picture myself in a rusted out '84 Tempo with duct tape brake taillight housings. Well, you get the idea.
Thanks. |
