I have a ? I have a 1962 gmc with the big block v6 305... My ? is was it common to have a boxed front frame for these trucks? Mine seems to have the front half of the frame boxed in with welded in motor mounts all looks to be factory was it?

Re: 1962 gmc short step side
To the best of my knowledge all 60-62 frames are of the same boxed front/full length frame rails with full xmbr in the center. These were very overbuilt, which was probably part of the reason they went to a less expensive design in 63.
GMC's with standard transmission came with welded in mounts, while Chevy trucks had a horseshoe mount at the front of the engine. Torque was controlled by the bellhousing mounts. Trucks I've seen with an automatic transmission came with side engine mounts which sat on multi-piece towers which bolted on the front crossmember, and had a bolt in transmission xmbr under the tailhousing. |

The '60-'62 Chevy and GMC's were like that. They were a boxed design at the front and the rear with the big X-member in the center.
