Re: down shift

Will it shift up by itself? Will it downshift if you do it manually?

Re: down shift

The easy fix would be the kickdown cable is off/out of adjustment and the driveshaft should be out an inch or so on slipyoke

Re: down shift

I don't think the kick down is for down shifting like the problem he is having. IIRC it is to make it drop down to 2nd gear to help you pass some one or accelerator faster when WOT.

Re: down shift

how do u adjust the kick down if this is the problem but my shaft was out to where it was leaking fluid out of shaft it was leaking like crazy

Re: down shift

first, did you check to make sure all the vacuum lines to the trans were in good shape?

Drop down - down shift, ummm same thing. If the detent cable is not properly adjusted it will not "Down Shift - Drop Down". It was never stated which gear this problem happens in.

Try this^

Re: down shift

I thought that there was a difference. one is for passing and accelerating using the detent cable. you mash down on the go-pedal and it pulls on the cable and makes the trans drop down to 2nd. the other is when you are coming to a stop or let off the accelerator *cable is then slack or no tension on it*. and the trans will start to down shift eventually by its self. without even using the Detent cable. and the later is what I gather is his problem..?

sounds like the yoke seal is bad... very easy fix. Drop the driveshaft, pull out the seal with a hook, tap in new seal with a wooden block & hammer, wipe new seal with trans. fluid, re-install driveshaft, replace tranny fluid that leaked out.

as they stated... need to know whether it's not kicking down on acceleration, or it's not down shifting when roll ing to a stop.

Re: down shift

it is not advised. it will shorten your trans life. for us to help, can you tell us When it does not down shift?

supamatic 09-29-2009 11:46 PM

Re: down shift

it does it when im at 50 55 60 thats third anit it i let off gas pedal it like if i slowly press the brake but im not no gluide it doesnt come to a stop just slows down fast

Re: down shift

I have the same thing happen to me. I always thought that's how its suppose to be. its kinda like when you down shift to help slow down. I always took that as compression braking. what you could do is when you are in free way speed and am in 3rd gear. mash it down, it "should" drop down to 2nd gear. if it does not then your cable is out of adjustment. when you are coming to a stop and you hear it shift from 3rd to 2nd to 1st then that is normal. then I would say it is OK. I would also wait to see if someone can confirm that.
