which carb?
 

i just cant figure out what carb i wanna throw on my blazer. i bought it with the 350 in it just the way it is. i hate my edelbrock carb so im wanting to get sumthing else on it. i dont really know the right size to put on on it, i know its got something done to it, it has an edelbrock torker intake manifold, double hump heads, ram horn exhaust manifolds (which i was told are pretty much as good as headers) and i believe its got a performance cam in it, cuz u can tell when its at idle. i was looking into a road demon 625, street demon 650 or a 600 holley.. right now i have my buddys holley 750, it runs good and everything, but when im driving and punch it, it cuts out hard, and it never did that with the 600 carb so im pretty sure its too big. any help?

I'm partial to the Quadrajet. It's not too difficult to tune and extremely reliable once set up. The small primaries give you relatively decent mileage and the big secondaries make a lot of power.

My engine came with and Edelbrock and just as soon as I get around to rebuilding the Q-jet I bought it's going on the truck.

i got a 500 edelbrock and it has awsome throttle responce and fires right up everytime

well, i had an edelbrock 600 on my 77 k5, it was ok, never was that happy with it, and have two in my garage right now.. im gonna go with holley or maybe a demon.

ya i would invest in the jet kit so you can play with the jets and get it just right for your motor

First thing you need to do is find out "what you really have" for heads, cam, intake, ignition, exhaust...etc.

Until you really know what parts are there, your pretty much shooting in the dark just throwing on a carb.

Tough to beat a good running Holley for all out "GO" in my opinon but they can be a pita and don't like to off road at all.
Never cared for the Edlebrooks, liked the old school Carters a lot better.
Q-jets seem to be the most reliable for day to day driving.

I AGREE WITH vtblazer 100%. You got to know what is all done to the motor you have to determine the size carb you require. And yes, if you are strickly pavement pounding, a Holley is Gas On! However, if you at all think you want to get it off road, hope you have a good starter because you will be re starting alot with the Holley. A Q-Jet is a great all around carb. The best thing to do with a Q-Jet is run the float setting low and have a electric fuel pump pushing to it. With the floats low it doesn't hold alot so you need to make sure you keep it supplied.

I've used holleys for years and they are a pain, especially if the vehicle is parked for any length of time. They will make good street power though when tuned right. The edelbrocks are fine, same thing, must be tuned right. Nothing wrong with the Q-jets, as long as your not trying to drag race with it.

The hesitation now is because of either the accelerator pump cam, adjustment or spray nozzle size. All of these things have to be adjusted for any engine.

You can tune any carb without knowing the engine specifics, as long as you know the procedure for tuning the carb.

My .02c will tell you Holly & Squarebody Edlebrocks are for street/cars and just plain suck off-road. In the 90s I ran Edelbrock Q-Jet 1901 750..worked awesome off road and dayly drving, I don't think thoes are being made anylonger??

When you see the old edlebrock q jet on ebay even the ones that need to be rebuilt they go fast and high. I have a edlebrock 1406 on one blazer and a Qjet on the other. I am not happy at all with 1406. I am looking to replaced it with a jet rebuilt Qjet which summit sells or a beefed Qjet from Carb Junkys in Atlanta. I have heard good things about both of those. But all carbs are very tempramental so who knows
