steering shaft coupler?

Where have you found a correctly sized steering shaft coupler(rag joint) for our trucks??? (Mine is '71 GMC Jimmy 4x4)

I got one from Advance Auto Parts that was supposed to fit, but the splined part was way too small and broke when I spead it to fit on gearbox shaft

Napa, Carquest, Autozone and Chevy Dealer say they cannot get this part

I see LMC lists the part, but was hoping for something local since the truck is disabled in parking garage and I don't want to pay a wrecker to tow it home

Ideas???

thanks

You should not have to spread the coupler. For a '72 there are two types(power steering and non-power steering). You got the non-power steering presumably. I found mine at Advanced Auto as part number 201(power steering).

The caveat I need to give is that all of this information may not apply to 4x4's.

Sound like you got the 3/4" and need the 13/16"....

Here is where I got mine for my K-10.....Nice quality!

Check the help section at your local auto parts store. I also know they made two sizes like Alex Hayley has noted.

Thanks guys

I ordered the 201 from Advanced Auto and the LMC version. If neither one works, will order from AmericanClassic.com

FrenchBlue, do you have any specific details on the Borgeson joint such as partnumbers? Does the Borgeson joint replace everything from the coupler to the steering column?

CPP sells complete direct replacement couplers for our trucks. $50. You can also get the rag repair kit at most auto parts stores for around $10.

The joint does not replace everything and is not cheap thats for sure...

Re: steering shaft coupler?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I wound up getting a Lares 201 ragjoint direct from their ebay store.

The Lares 201 Advanced Autoparts sold me was not the correct part. Somehow wound up in the wrong packaging.

The Lares 200 obviously does not fit. The LMC ragjoint did not fit either
