1bad - a phantom grill is the style of grill in which the grill insert (usually horizontal bars) sits fully in front of the headlights. This way with the lights off, it appears that the headlights do not exist (thus the "phantom"). You see it more commonly on later model minitrucks and such.
To the OP: I think the challenge in building one would be getting the grill to sit in front of the headlights without sticking out the front of the truck, which may require finding a way to recess the headlights a bit...
In terms of building the grill, you have to determine how many bars you want to run; what size/thickness etc and start fabbing from there. I'll be honest tho, a phantom grill only looks good on certain vehicles, and even then only certain grilles pull off the look correctly.
found this somewhere on here, here it looks GOOD

I lightened these up a bit.. couldn't really see the grilles.

Rather than "Phanthom" it would appear that this is better defined as the little know Chevrolet "Ralleye Sport" option for the C10's? :haha:

I like the idea of the purple one... well just the middle trim piece not so much with the phantom part...
