66 trans conversion

Hi,
I have a 66 Chevy long bed P/U with original 6 cylinder. I would like to keep it a 6 , but convert from 3 on the tree to a 700R4 or other automatic with OD. Is this possible to do without a lot of problems? Thanks for any advice. Rick
