Vent window help.

2 Attachment(s)
I decided to replace my rotted out vent window weatherstripping. Big Mistake! After hours of struggling with the new weatherstripping i finally got it done. But then this happened. The vent window will not close. The top seems not far enough back for the angle of the window. I even tried removing the pivot rivet. No luck. Wont line up anyway I try. The vent appears to be installed in the same position from when I removed it. The screw that hold the top of the door isnt slotted so no adjustment available there. The window glass is all the way in the frame. Any ideas whats wrong? Thanks

Re: Vent window help.

Did mine Sat. I've got the same prob on the drivers side. Frame is bottomed in the door and the screws lined up. I assumed me racking it around and the PO's dollop of weld on the glass hinge side just mis-aligned it.

I'm curious to see if there is an easy fix that I'm overlooking. Almost seems like the hinge has to rotate toward the windshield?

Sorry that I couldn't help, I was going to post up the same problem in the A.M.

What brand weatherstipping are you using? I got Precision Brand from Chevy Duty. Man I hate aftermarket weatherstipping. Never fits right on anything.

Re: Vent window help.

Mine was also Precision. (JC Whitney). I pretty sure I had read somewhere that even the stuff GM was selling was Precision.

Mine actually fit pretty good, it was a pain to get in, but the fit was good. I blame it more on "operator error" (in my case). I think I did the 2nd vent in 1/2 the time, and it fit better. My alignment issues are with the first one i did. I'll mess with mine more when the rain stops.

Just to let you know I have an 87 Silverado and both vent windows "clip" the top when opening and closing. I dont think mine have been opened 20 times in there whole life so it might be a factory problem and the new aftermarket rubbers make it worse?

I thought something was worn out but everything is tight

Mine were fine before the weatherstrip. OK not "fine" but the fit was good. Rust was pushing the glass out of the frame, I actually didn't dare use it.

I was re-installing my passenger side wing today and had a he** of a time getting the wing to fit the new rubber... I finally got the rubber fully in the frame and the fit was good. I put the rest of the door together, everything looked great and the window went up and down fine, (only took a half hour of cussin' and adjusting) AH HA, I thought, another job well done.

I slammed the door shut (hey, it's a Chevy, ya gotta slam 'em) and the vent glass SHATTERED, WTF????? What did I do wrong? and does anybody have a pass side vent glass for an '84 GMC? thanks, Paul

Re: Vent window help.

This weekend i had some time to see what was going on. It seemed like the window worked fine when the top screw was not in place. Didnt seem to line up but i could not find anything that it could be hanging up on. Once I pushed the vent frame to line up the top screw it made the vent window not want to close.

Re: Vent window help.

try loosening everything up where you can move the vent window assembly around then close the vent window and turn the knob so that is stays shut then put it back in place then after that roll your big window up this should make the screw holes line up then put the screws in there proper place after that tighten everything up and then it should work fine. This is what me and my dad do on customers trucks. if that does not work then something is bent the little hinge will sometimes get bent when you are installing the new gasket.

hope this helps
