Blazer/Jimmy tips

I have an chance to get a Jimmy (it's a 67-72 but I haven't looked close enough yet) for a very good price, maybe free. If it's in the condition I think it is, I'm thinking of restoring it for my 14 year old in time for his 16th. It's completely stock and never lifted. Since I've been concentrating on my truck, I've only half listened to the Blazer talk - I wish I could search past posts.

I know y'all have mentioned things such as checking for rust around the top of the windshield, and that some of the sheet metal panels are hard to come by despite GMCPaul's great efforts.

What are some of the things to look for on a Blazer/Jimmy that could give big headaches during restoration or down the road?

Thanks,

The support boxes under the floor behind the rockers are important, usually rusted but can be fabricated for structual integrity when the top is off. Sounds like a good project, bet your son will be thrilled when he turns 16.

Check the floor under all the carpet. The tops tend to leak and leave wet carpet. You know what happens next! RUST.
Also, do all your body work (rocker panels, rocker boxes, pillars etc) with the top in place to prevent misalignment headaches later. Good luck!

Rear hatch, Rockers, rocker boxes, window frame, front and rear pillars are the places that need to be looked at the closest. If you want to see pictures of the most common problem areas check out the link below. Good luck

You mean 69-72? You should be listening to all the Blazer talk as 98% of it can be used on the trucks. Another common place is the rear most bedfloor, around wheel wells, interior side, and front of rear wheel well. There's pockets in these areas that collect dirt and junk. For all you K5 owner check these area's and clean monthly, lol
