Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

Since everyone here is a suburban fan I wanted to show you that my parents are Suburban fanatics!! Here they all are from parts trucks to nearly done restoration projects, and everything in between!!

A couple of month's ago my mom bought this suburban without my dad even knowing about it. He didn't seem too upset when he found out. It is a factory big block 1/2 ton truck. Originally orange with white interior. It's a little rough around the edges but runs like a tank.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2676.jpg

He has since removed the original white seat covers and replaced them with Mexican blankets. My mom said she didn't like that and said that because of that it is now my dad's suburban. Never knew that he was a genius!

The driver's side 1/4 panel looked straight when he bought it. Saw a crack in the panel and chipped it away. Noticed it was bondo. Chipped all of the bondo off and found a mini mountain range hiding within.

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

This one is a 60-61. Waiting to be fixed up. He got is out of Amarillo.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2724.jpg

Also a 60-61. My mom got this one out of San Antonio. Used to be a school bus. The guy we bought it from was nearly crying when we took it away. It was his first car and I am sure held many, many memories. Don't worry it won't be hiding under that brush for much longer.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2725.jpg

My dad just picked this one up out of Dallas. It is a factory v8 truck. Put a new battery and gas in it and had it driving around the yard within an hour. He got this one for a rediculous price.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2726.jpg

This one is actually a GMC. It was a very nicely optioned suburban, but my dad felt it was best left as a parts truck due to rust. Since it was rusty we obviously got this one from Houston.

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

This one is a 66 that he is almost done restoring. Factory v8, power steering, and power brakes. We got it in Houston but not sure where it is from. It was very, very solid.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2729.jpg

The remnants of a 1950 Suburban. Came from Gonzolez, Texas. The body is extremely rust free, but unfortunately someone put a chain thru the door openings and ruined the roof just above the windshield. So now it is waiting to give up it's 1/4 panels for another project.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2727.jpg

Somewhere behind that pile of parts is a 1950 model suburban. We found it in Leesburg, Virginia thru Ebay. A little rustier than we are used to but still restorable.

This is a 57 suburban that actually runs pretty good. We got it out of Midland but it is from Arizona. Has some 1/4 panel rust but overall in very good shape.

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

Well thats all they have for now, but as you can see there will propably be more. Here is a picture of a 54 suburban that we spotted on the way to Lubbock, Texas. He is suppose to be inquiring about it but since it is behind an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere he is having trouble finding someone to talk to.

http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/IMG_2529.jpg

Just to give everyone more eyecandy here are my two suburbans. The first picture is my 54 suburban that was bought in a package deal with the previously shown green 50 suburban.

This is my 72 suburban. I got this about a year ago out of Austin. By far the most solid vehicle I have ever bought.

Geeze you guys could start your own personal burb club with that collection!

BTW: I see that LMC now carries that tail light section patch panel for your orange burb.

Nice trucks. I knew that suburan looked familiar. I had been talking to the guy that owned it off of CL right about the time I had decided to purchase, it was sold. Now I know what happened to it. :metal:

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

67Mach1, Yeah thats the one. He said that he had people interested in it but no one came up with the money yet. I figured it was just a sales line, but I guess it had some truth to it.

He said that he couldn't get it running and he thought something was broken inside. We hauled it home and checked the fire. Turned out the points were bad, and he had the spark plug wires crossed. After about 30 minutes of work and $6.00 in parts I was driving it around the yard. Put all new brakes on her, new windshield wiper motor, added the missing A/C brackets and parts, and a bunch of other little things and got her titled. I also buffed out the paint and except wher the paint was worn thru it came back to almost new condition. So far she has been a blast to drive. I am actually going to be taking her to the cruise night tonight.

Future plans are new tail light areas (Already have cherry replacement 1/4 panels from parts burbs). New paint, new seat covers, headliner, dash pad, windshield, tires, headliner, get A/C working, and whatever little things need attention.

CG, At least all the ones in East Texas are!!

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

you suck....no seriously, i am totally jealous. wish i had the time, space and money. id have a rig from every era. i've met the gentleman who owns a '41 burb with a diesel conversion and also the original '35 prototype (canvas upper tailgate). the '35 is presently on temporary display in a museum but i hope to see it next year at the barrington, nh vintage truck show. but you still must have everyone beat by the sheer number of burbs at one time.

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

Capevan, I don't know how it keeps happening. It seems like everytime I go to my dads there is something new. He tries to only keep as many vehicles as he can store inside, but the hurricanes from 05' and last year has knocked the amount of shed space he has down. I don't know what it is about the burbs but we just love them.

The old burbs (30s and 40s) are just phenomenal. They are almost like hens teeth. My parents want to find a 41-46 burb, and I wan't to find a 37-40 burb. If you get to see that prototype burb PLEASE take pictures and post. I would love to see that.

As far as largest burb collection; I never thought of it. I didn't even show pictures of 3 other parts suburban's that we have. I would assume that there is someone that owns a junkyard somewhere that might have more. If anyone on here can rival please show pics I would love to see them. That and if someone has a larger collection we wont be the crazy ones anymore!

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

there is a spread of the prototype in a book about chevy trucks. and his 41 has been featured in several magazines also. an issue of vintage truck a couple months back had a picture of the 41 and the 35 towed behind it. he is planning to redo his trailer to match the 41. it has a cummins straight 4 and pontiac 400 trans out of an old bread delivery truck. it has 120hp and gets 35mpg without overdrive. it has a front disc brake upgrade (stock chassis otherwise) a custom $1,000 radiator, tow hitch of course and the previous owner did the firewall, undercarraige and running boards with black poly bed liner. i took some pictures of the truck at the show.

Thank's everyone. Drasticwagon, those are some good looking suburbans that you and your son have. It is good to see another father and son working on vintage burbs.

We went to see another '40-'46 Burb this past weekend but it turned out to be a sedan delivery van with crude cut outs for windows. This was in cental Texas but I wasn't interested. Still looking for a pre '46 Burb.

Re: Muleman 100's 72' and other Suburbans

Muleman and I also caught up with the blue bullnose suburban in one of the above pictures. It was already sold, but we wouldn't have been interested anyways. It was on a later model frame, gutted inside, all windows busted out, no interior, and suprisingly for a west TX truck was a bodo bucket! Seller said he got $1,500 for it.
