Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
Okay so I'm on a very limited budget and I;ve decided to go with summit paint. Problem is they sell three different types of orange but no "light red" like my truck is stock. Anyways here a pic of my truck... I'm wanting your suggestions on what paint would look best and look mainly stock,

I, too, am using Summit paint. I am going with Black Cherry Pearl. For your truck, I like #3.

Re: Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
i would use #2. you should also listen to mike 85 in other post. do a panel at a time then epoxy with spi. orange will pop more over a white so i am going to use white epoxy for last round of primer. yesterday i sprayed rf fender and inside of hood with spi black epoxy. that stuff is truly amazing. today i was straightening dings in fender. it is so nice to see when you have it sanded enough or if you need mor filler. i read somewhere barry from spi sprayed a panel with epoxy and soaked it in brake fluid for days maybe a week and it was untouched. that in itself sold me on the durability. when sanding today that stuff sands awesome. dry 180 took my run right out.

Re: Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
Sorry, Im pretty new to painting... what do you mean by took your run out? like, where the paint ran? or orange peel?
Finally, aside from patina, what other options do I have to temporarily paint it for (cheap) once I do the bodywork, that WONT rust? That I can paint over with summit hugger orange eventually. |
Re: Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
I think all that stuff on the original paint will buff out man lol jk....Id go with the fire engine red

Re: Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
"took the run out" meaning i had the epoxy on too wet. it sanded out nicely. other epoxys i have used sanded like chewing gum the next day. not this stuff and it had a nice satin black finish.

Re: Choose the best body color (PIC HEAVY)
strip it epoxy it a panel at a time and drive it. spi epoxy will protect it from rust most primers will make it rust sooner. it is pourus. (basicly talcum powder) when time comes to paint just sand and paint. you can get their epoxy in white grey or black.
