Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
Hey everyone a guy local to me proposed a poss trade to me so i figured i would toss it up here and see what some of the very knowledgeable people on these trucks thought. keep in mind that this would be a straight up trade. I love old chevys to begin with and i love my truck just as much as i do old blazer k5's
Vehicle #1 in a nutshell belongs to me. 1977 K10 4x4 LWB new radiator and jasper 350 last month. Muncie SM465 trans and NP203 t/c. Bucket seats, block lift unfortunately, BFG KO's 35x12.5x15, clean interior and everything works, not perfect but nice http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/s...1241785825.jpg Vehicle #2 in a nutshell belongs to him. 1975 K5 4x4 with 6" lift and BFG KO's 35x12.5x15 , hard top, corvette 350 rebuilt less than 15k ago, turbo 350 trans, bucket seats, converted r134 a/c, NP203 t/c, rhino lined floor and partial undercarriage, clean interior, almost everything works inside (dome lights and other small nick nack stuff). http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/s...1255847977.jpg let me know what you guys think. Any thing i should know about the blazers of that year or anything like that would be helpful. Or put yourself in my shoes if you can. Is this something you would do? if yes or no please tell me why. Thanks everyone take care |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
From what you've posted and the pics it seems that both of your trucks are in abut the same condition. I would make sure I went over the other truck with a fine tooth comb, but I would do that no matter how I was acquiring it. Also consider this I beleive that is a half door blazer, correct? (I'm not 100% up to speed on that) If it is they are much rarer than than a k10, so I would say it puts you a little ahead on the value curve.
The biggest thing is whether or not YOU want the blazer or to keep your truck, not what we would do if we were in your shoes. |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
how do you use the truck? do you need more interior room or hauling room? remember the long bed will ride lots better than the short wheel base of the blazer. So it comes down to what you want because they are probably worth about the same. Corvette motor? everyone who has a -----010 block 350 thinks they have a vette motor...

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
would keep the K10 anyday blazers are cool but i think there are something special about Pickups

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
blazer
|
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I do haul things but at the same time I like interior space for my
gear and old dog (14yrs). I like the versatility of the blazer and I think it is a half door because there is no frame around the window. Is this correct? The guy hasn't finalized the trade yet but he's interested in my truck and I'm interested in his blazer. |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I love them both. I like the looks of your truck better, but I think I'd trade for the Blazer.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
Hey trench why would you trade for the blazer? Just curious since you said you liked the look of my truck?
Also I found out that the vc gaskets need to be done (leak a little bit) on the blazer and the interior lights don't work. I'm decent with wiring so shouldn't be hard. |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
Keep the K10.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I haul a lot of people, go on a lot of road trips and end up sleeping in the back quite a bit. Other than that, my reason would be trucks a a bit more common. I'd probably keep your truck as it looks great. It loks different than any other squarebody pickup.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I would look the blazer over checking for rust or rust repair. '75 was the last year of the full top. Since the truck is lifted, look for cracks around the steering box and other frame damage. How is your 14 yr old dog going to get into the Blazer? If someone is selling a 350, it always came from a vette. I'm not sure I like the hood scoop either.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I would have to say keep the truck too. I like those k5s but i think your truck is very clean looking. I been into vettes for a long time. My truck has got my old vettes engine when the 305 took a dive. Its just a name in my opinion, unless you have a lt1 or an ls1 or an old school engine from the 60s with a lot of hp. Other than that when someone says it has a VETTE engine it really means nothing.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I say keep the truck.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
i say keep the truck, at least you know what you got, with the blazer you just never know what your getting into. just my 2 cents

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I am leaning toward saying Blazer. The one thing holding me back is the purple paint. I am not crazy about purple vehicles. The cool thing about the Blazer is that you have more people room, and a full removable top. The cool thing about the truck is that it's a much better color, and you can haul a ton of stuff in the back.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
Full top Blazer= More Summer fun.
Long bed 4wd= More Winter fun. Toss a coin, they are both nice. |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I love the looks of your truck. I would keep the truck. Maybe be on the lookout for a Blazer with a blown engine for cheap. They're all over Craigslist for less than $1000.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I'd keep the truck. It looks better but is also a lot more versatile than the blazer
|
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
As others have said, they do different things so its hard to compare. I like Blazers for the convertible aspect. In my mind you can't beat the fun of a convertible. If you can rig a way to pull the hardtop by yourself then its even better (its been detailed on this forum I think). Buy a trailer to haul the junk.
I'd like to have both though. Eric |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
Run the casting numbers on the block on the motor in the blaze, if it IS a Vette motor, what year is it? It is probably an L82 if semi modern, if not it may be worth a entire truck in itself. I almost bought a swb C10 once that the guy siad had a vette motor in he SAID was a 350. I passed because it was all un cared for but after my buddy bought it, I WISHED I had! Turned out it was a Vette motor, out of a 1963 Vette! My buddy (who I told the truth) about the motor, ended up selling the motor in crappy condition for 10K! A guy who was trying to find a correct vintage motor for his 1963 split window Vette. Turned out it was a 327. When I looked at it the first time it did have the correct look, bbut as one other poster said, everyone seems to say there is a vette motor in there.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
I would say keep the truck, unless you can get some money to boot on the trade. Remember HE WANTS TO TRADE. I love blazers, but they are a little more of a niche vehicle. Almost everyone has or wants a truck, only some people want or have blazers. Find out more info on the motor, if it is fresh he should have receipts and details about what it is and what was done to it. That guy that bought the 327 paid $8000 too much for it.

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
As has been said before the Blazer is a great toy but its utility is limited. You just can't haul much except for people and a small amount of your gear in one.
Everybody with a house needs a truck but it is nice to be able to take the whole family with you on occasions. I have both for that reason. If you make the trade you will be looking for another truck sooner or later. Without receipts and documentation photos the engine rebuild could just be a spray can rebuild and/or receipts from another vehicle. It could be a great deal but he could be hiding some major flaws too. I don't like to buy modified vehicles. You never know the quality of parts/work that has been done. I say get a cheap all stock Blazer and build it yourself so you know for sure what is in there. |
Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
i belive i would keep my truck. i went thru a spell of wanting a blazer then after i had it i went back to a truck

Re: Trade my 77 k10 for a 75 k5
$10K is alot for a vette 327, but when you are restoring a 63 split window($$$$) and want it to be #'s matching, it's hard to find the correct motor. Alot of people don't realize that to b #'s matching, doesn't mean original, it just means that the Block, heads, tranny, and rear end have the right codes to say they could have been installed in whatever vehicle they are going into.
