wheel backspace/offset for 17x8
I am getting ready to get in trouble with Big Boss. Looking for backspace information for a 17x8 wheel for my 2WD Blazer. What are you guys running for tire size, and wheel offset/backspace. I am thinking that I want to run the same size tire and wheel all round, but could be swayed. When done with the suspension, which I want to be spring/shock or coil over, I want my Blazer to sit level. Currently it looks pretty bad.
30 1/2" at top of rear wheel arch 28" at top of front wheel arch THANKS TO ALL ! |
Re: wheel backspace/offset for 17x8
I had 17x8's (5" bs) and 17x9.5's (4.5" bs) with 255/50-17's and 275/50-17's.
You need a wider rear tire to help with the front "track width" being wider than the rear track width. I had these on my old '82 2wd blazer and for a while,... they were on my '71 2wd blazer. |
Re: wheel backspace/offset for 17x8
Thank you. I was kind of heading that way. Do you have any pictures of that setup? I just got off the Nitto site, and the 275 is 27.8 tall, and the 255 is 27.08 . The rim recommendation is 8 front and 9.5 rear. Any suggestions for the static drop? What to do to the front and rear?

My '82 was about a 4"/5" drop. My suggestion would be as LOW as possible! |
Re: wheel backspace/offset for 17x8
The vin plate on the door says it is a 1972 4wd? The doors are 71, the frame is a 2wd. Currently it looks to have drop springs all round, with out drop spindles up front. The rear springs are so soft that when I put the hard top on it sits level, but HEY I live in florida and the top is not on it much. One of my concerns is just that. How do I go about a 4/5 or 4/6 drop and have the Blazer sit level top on top off. I had a set of NT450s on my Chevelle, that I had Diamond back classic red line, really like Nitto Tires.

Re: wheel backspace/offset for 17x8
I would say,... do drop spindles and springs up front, and run air bags on schrader valves in the rear,... so you can adjust for the top being on or off.
