Project Zeus

Well here it is. Its a 85 K20, has a 4" lift, and needs lots of tlc. I am convinced to restore it, but its will be a long build as its got to work too. I had a 87 k5 a while ago, and I was looking for a plow truck and came across this. It had a new crate 350 in it about 6k ago, and I only paid 1500 for it.

Nice find>
Can't beat these old trucks for plowing. Had 2 pick up's and now using a blazer for plowing. Good luck with your build. |
Re: Project Zeus
Thanks, Like I said it will be a slow build but I will try to keep it updated here. The original color of the truck is white, I think I am going to 2 tone it with a grey or frost blue on the bottom. I am in the process of looking for rust free parts. I am hoping to get a rust free cab, box and fenders, have them painted, and install them, next summer when I have time.

Re: Project Zeus
I should be picking up a rust free cab and bed sometime in the next few weeks. So I will begin the process of restoring the old 85.

Re: Project Zeus
Hey Sarge, nice build. I like how its coming along and I'm wishing I could do this to mine. Looking at the truck you're starting with its sharp. I'll be watching this build.

Re: Project Zeus
Great looking donor parts. That is a VERY solid cab, even out here where it is all dry. Nice find. But the Confederate flag stickers in NY, made me chuckle a bit. I will be watching this build as well.
Oh and, nice lift. That at the house? Now that would rock! |
Re: Project Zeus
I am not too proud to bear a confederate flag, I have a cousin that lives in Texas and my other brother lives in Tn near Nashville.
I know that truck I started with looks good in the pics but its shot. Someone cut the rear of the frame, the D/S door is rotted, the floors, well lets just say I have enough room for my feet, the firewall is rotted, and the bed supports are long gone. I bought it for the plow and the new GM crate 350. It needs a HEI and I am thinking of going fuel injection, but I am looking for a good stand alone kit. Thanks for all the comments, the thread was slow to start, I guess the 4x4's arent as popular with the folks on the board. Sarge |
Re: Project Zeus
It has been a little while. How is it coming along? Get that new cab ready or on?
|
Re: Project Zeus
No not much progress. I am stripping the cab right down to bare metal, found some rust in the cab corners, and I have to order some new ones, also trying to find a new set of cab clearance lights that are OEM for the 07-up HD trucks but they are pricey. All the scrap yards around here are not letting anyone in cause of the ice so I am SOL right now. I am still plugging away, but I can post pics of the rust and bare metal if you want.
Thanks for the interest though. I will get moving...soon. Sarge |
Re: Project Zeus
Any pics are always welcome! Have you searched ebay for the cab lights?
Edit: Here is a set on there now for $45. |
Re: Project Zeus
No I havent done much searching cause I am not that motivated. I got to get my butt in gear though.

Nice to see another Upstate NY build! And a K truck as well!

Re: Project Zeus
Thanks,
As far as an update goes...well there isnt much. I have been a little too busy at the shop here to reall do anything to it. I am hoping to buy a building within the next few months and then the chassis will be inside and I can work on that as well. For some reason I cant get motivated enough to work on the body. Sarge |
