Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
Hammering is really the only way. Usually by the time you have 2 of them out, it gets easier....

Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
You are referring to the steering arm. The pitman arm attaches to the steering box. To get the steering arm off, hit it hard, from the side, with a big hammer. What you want to do is to momentarily deform the bolt holes so that the tapered inserts will pop out. Then the steering arm will fall right off.

Big hammer!!
Hit it down, out on the drag link end. Then hit it up. Then hit it sideways. Cuss. Soak with penetrant of your choice. Repeat. |
Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
For scheduling purposes you can figure it`ll take ya about 3 beers.(or beverage of choice).

Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
Thanks guys, i figured it would be kinda simple. I moved up to a much bigger hammer and eventualy a wedged punch. Took a little longer than I thought, probably a six pack if i had one lol. The next one I need to remove is on a knuckle that is not attatched to the D44 anymore...

Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
hit it from all angles like described above and another trick ive figured out is taking a chisel or a punch and hitting the cone washer where it is split so it turns in the hole in the arm. From what ive seen its always the cones that it is stuck on.

Re: Removing Dana Pitman arm
you can try to get something to wedge the cone waser apart
